Feb 13, 2008 - Excellent - great job Kim.

LadyAmarant Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - Kim Pearson rocks! I am lucky that I have a mom and dad that are as understanding of my own transsexuality. The school is also great. I think they are doing brilliantly.

sistermischif Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - Well done Kim!

cheannjones Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - You go girl! Someday children like my daughter will not have to be pulled out of school to be homeschooled because they cannot safely be themselves in the public schools. Kim, You are the bomb!!!

filibusterer Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - A well done piece. I wish the subtitle on the segement hadn't read "BOY will go to school," since that's just the sort of sensationalist, reactionary headlining that puts out the wrong message - but still, any coverage on primetime is good coverage.

kelligirl2007 Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - You Rock Kim!!!!! And Kudos to your son!!!!! Awsome job at is school!!!!!! Hey Sister Mischif a shout out to you!!!!

trsnb210 Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - Wonderful information! Kim, you're the best. Up to 1/250 births experience gender discrepency...count the kids in any school and do the math... many stand to gain from your words. Parents: Please know that kids are VERY accepting when this is presented. They fold it into what they know about classmates and move on. If the parents don't freak out the kids don't! We don't allow "blame" or harrassment for any other medical condition; this IS a medical condition. Education and support are key.

Feb 13, 2008 - Great job, Kim! I hope to meet you if you come to IFGE or the Tucson area. Keep up the good HARD difficult work that you do, it's being recognized! Hugs, Lori Davis

LadyAmarant Says:

Feb 13, 2008 - Thanks havasumoma. I was so terrified of telling them, but they were both fine with it - my dad of course getting all practical about therapy and job situation and stuff ;), but they both accepted it. The rest of the family has not been going so well, but I suppose most of my relatives I only see now and again anyway, and while I would like for them to accept me, the most important people already have.

edenmaze Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - RIGHT ON! This is a fantastic story of understanding, tolerance and acceptance. Societal Growing pains can hurt, but in the long run, the result is a better way. 5 STARS! :~D

havasumoma Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - that is a good way to look at it and give the others time, they may come around too.

MomH2008 Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - I am the parent of a transgender child. He transitioned at age 7, and six years later...has never waivered. Kim did a marvelous job! The school is doing what is right for this little girl. The children will be just fine. My son goes to school and uses the boys bathroom...no one has ever had a problem. Just let them be who they were meant to be!! Thanks for educating the public!

kyappygirl Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - Kudos to Kim and TYFA for their continued efforts in advocating for our transgendered children. Another wonderful television segment aired during prime time. The word is out. Our children should be safe and happy in their schools.

Bitpicture Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - Parents like this are heroes.

nathanielgfunk3 Says:

Feb 14, 2008 - I wish I had a mom like you...I'm 23 and have been struggling with this for years and years. I just came out as trans for the second time..the first was when I was 19 and was threatened by my family..so I tried to live as a lesbian..and I just came back out again as trans. It's not going to go away..and I wish I had a mother like you..who would support me..and just try to understand, at least..and love me for who I TRULY am. Kudos to you for supporting him. :)

princessLisy Says:

Feb 15, 2008 - I think this is awesome . That this child can go to school and be who she truely is. I think everyone should be able to be happy and be accepted for who they are as long as there not hurting anyone . As far as Hormones go .I think the child should probally wait until she is a teen to decide on that . Thing should be taken in steps and this is a great first step in that direction for this child. I feel people are becomeing more and more acceptable with transgender people which is a good thing.

JesseLH88 Says:

Feb 15, 2008 - Why unisex bathrooms? I don't understand. If this child is considered a girl, then she should use the girl's bathroom like the rest. Also, that Dave M. guy is an ass.

CaseyBlase Says:

Feb 15, 2008 - As a transsexual that was the first in my school, I will tell you the unisex bathroom is mostly in safety for the student, and to relieve safety issues from the girls parents.

LadyGwenMN Says:

Feb 16, 2008 - I have to say I think it's wrong to require this girl to use a unisex restroom if she doesn't want to. I feel that it would only be a short time before the other boys and girls would accept her as just another girl, and the school needs to protect her from any violence through firm action with any that would cause her harm. I feel like it would be very important to get her into the main stream of being a girl. I say this from the point of view on an adult that has made the transition.

juliuschase Says:

Feb 17, 2008 - I agree, but the society is 'afraid' and wants to be politically correct.
