Nov 19, 2009 - Large-scale orchestral pieces have evolved into movie soundtracks. The old composers haven't been succeeded by popular bands like Metallica, but by the likes of Bernard Herrmann and John Williams. Come to think of it, most people wouldn't have had ready access to an orchestra back in the 1700s. I imagine that there was a lot of music being played by small groups of local musicians. Before the days of radio, such small groups could gain regional recognition at best.

Nov 19, 2009 - My hubby and I had our first dance together to this song...SM was the most ingenious idea and it sounds better here than on some of the albums...they sound so much better live than in studio. Metallica forever!
JanPB Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - Movie soundtracks are not on the evolution path either. They are in a sort of frozen in a permanent pre-Wagner stage. Wagner himself and obviously Mahler, etc., are ahead of all of today's soundtrack music.
