Though the f-35s may share some design elements from the f-22, it is not merely a modification of it. The budget for building the f-22s had been scaled back considerably from the original plan, and the three versions of the f-35 (only one of which is VTOL capable) are meant to share common parts and otherwise be more economical to produce than the very expensive f-22.

It should also replace the current F/A-18 Hornets of my home country, but i guess we may have to wait some time yet because the development and the validation seems to take a little biiiiiiiiiit longer than they thought...that simulator would be so cool to have:P

Oct 29, 2009 - that's not exactly true they though it was very loud but noise tests have found out that it is only about as loud as an f-16 and much quieter than the f-22 and f-18 super hornet...

Oct 30, 2009 - Well , the country i live in has bought 2 (yes not 1 but 2 ! ) JFS's .... Looks great , but i don't think it will be very effective in today's wars . The Taliban doesn't have any type of fighter jet . You won't take out an F-22 with an RPG... So they are kind of useless in my eyes . The F-22's and F-18's are fine for the airstrikes . Or am i just wrong about this ? Excuse me for my noob English .

Oct 30, 2009 - the jsf is much cheaper to maintain and purchase than both the f-22 and the f-18 and its also a lot more advanced than the f-18 and can match or succeed the f-22's capabilities, also the f-35 can be used for reconnaissance, bombing, strike missions, fighting other jets and much more its just simple, easy, cheap, smart and everything else you might need!

Nov 23, 2009 - No , it's not necessary . Why would you buy a fighter that is 30/40 million dollars more expensive than one that does the same job . When you are in war with Russia with their huge army and missile systems it would be nice to have an JSF . But i don't think you can take out any fighterjet that goes 800 KM/H and fly's 4 KM high with an RPG . So why would you buy this plane when you can do the same thing only cheaper ?
