May 1, 2008 - I've been looking for a really clear-sounding OD with a nice burn that sounds good in low/mid gain settings for looooong time. Had to settle for my proco rat since nothing else has fit the bill, but I think you may have just shown me the light.

May 15, 2008 - you should also check out a menatone howie! i love the howie! its modeled after the dumble amps. in my own opinion i think the howie sounds better.

May 19, 2008 - does it give good boost?

Jun 5, 2008 - Request: Please review this pedal using a telecaster or humbucker-equipped guitar. That would be super great. This is without question one of the most versatile single-channel overdrive pedals out there.

snoopjmcd Says:

Jun 19, 2008 - Can you get LTD-type low overdrive sounds with the small fry or is it a different sound at lower burn setting? Which pedal would be better for some hotter SRV-style tones?

Aug 15, 2008 - use 2 tube screamers together

Nov 13, 2008 - I've checked out dozens of these high dollar "boutique" distortion/overdrive pedals and still nothing compares to the sound I get slamming the front end of my 1987X Plexi with my $39 DOD 250. I run my Strat into an LPB-1 first to boost the single coils to drive the DOD which is dimed pummeling the crap out those juicy Svetlana EL34's. Sure you can spend $200 on a boutique and still not have half the character of the DOD. IMHO that is...

cybermoose17 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Yeah, except this isn't a, "boutique," pedal. David and Ronni make an effort to NOT label their stuff as "boutique". Aside from liking the pedal or not, fact is, their products are fairly priced, compared to the rest of the market. They could easily sell double what they charge(this one in particular is $150). Nothing wrong with being satisfied with the sound you're getting w/o them either, I just don't think it's fair to label Barber's stuff in the snobby high end, "boutique," category.

Jan 11, 2009 - Uh...did you have some "Board" Compression on when you turned the Dynamics up? It might seem a bit Hard to tell if there is any difference with that on. Nice Video though.

Jan 12, 2009 - Try listening to this video on our website. This video was uploaded during the height of Youtube's horrible compression phase. That's the reason we started hosting our own vids! -PGS

Feb 22, 2009 - this pedal blows away the ts808, i used the 808 for years just the barber, 808 is my back up now.

itsbenj Says:

May 10, 2009 - yes, setting one of the 3-way switch is a circuit like the LTD, so you have that whole range. as far as hotter sounds, as the LTD is a lo-gain pedal, this one can get much 'hotter' than an SRV sound, but can definitely do well in that range too. when I want a thick, high-middy sound, I use the middle 'burn unit' setting, tone @ 1-2, dynamics @ 2-3, burn @ 8-10, volume to taste. the small fry doesn't over-emphasize the mids on its own like a tube screamer, but get that sound too. adjust away!

jp6l6 Says:

Sep 9, 2009 - Totally agree with you ! I own it and estimate it could cost a lot more if Barber would be boutique labeled. It's agreat pedal for a justified price.
