Jul 25, 2009 - Great video and instruction - well done. It's consistent with what I was taught this week and I went from basic snowplough turns to some decent carving using these techniques. The only additional stresses we had in our lesson was to get used to leaning down the hill (which is counter intuitive) and that the reason we are trying to get onto the edges on both skis is to let the natural profile of the ski edges to take you round the corner (sounds obvious now but wasn't to me at first).

7flyinghecks Says:

Jul 26, 2009 - Awesome! Using edges correctly has always been hard for me. You make it easy to understand. I am so going to try this in a few months..as so as we get some snow here.

Aug 22, 2009 - I bought this dvd, it has soooo muhc information and instructional techniques, you would pay over 600 buck for a private lesson to have some half asses ski instructor tell you this on the slopes, i paid 60 for the dvd and a free analysis....awesome dvd

Aug 22, 2009 - Very good video, exact!

canyonsman1 Says:

Aug 22, 2009 - Brilliant! Having a skier put his hands on his knees automatically takes care of most balance, angulation, etc. issues. Keep those skis arcing!

remiski1 Says:

Sep 5, 2009 - Great job! I would just add a precision.. the carving explained there should not be seen as a technique itself (depending on the type of feeling youre looking for, of course). Its more like a way to make your turns better, more dynamic. The turns still start with a good footwork, and that should never be forgotten). You surely understand this, because its done perfectly in your free turns at the end.. but most intermediate/advanced skier dont! but excellent job, its a good thing to publish that!

MairKlaus Says:

Sep 12, 2009 - Thank you for your comment. The clip is for intermediate skiers that want to discover carving or want to improve their carving skills. As you point out this is just one skill of many that lead to better skiing. The most important ski fundamentals are covered in the other 80 minutes of the DVD and give a more complete explanation of the perfect turn.

TELEDUG Says:

Oct 1, 2009 - This looks like a really good way of getting carving started. I'm looking forward to trying this technique to help my neices. I use something similar when explaining tele-turns (esp. on steeps). As you transition between turns and you begin to come parallel with the fall line, you try to touch your outside knee with your opposite elbow. This really forces your upper body into the correct position and allows your skis to angle and carve. It's great fun.

joeburton77 Says:

Oct 16, 2009 - love carving.. one of the best feelings in the world

Nov 17, 2009 - Great video clip. Inspirational instructing, and solid demonstrations. I'm a ski instructor myself and may use this method in my lessons (if you don't mind)!! Thanks!

MysticAtt Says:

Nov 18, 2009 - Very very good practice stuff with the hands on the knees, and you very clearly explain that the upper body is key to carving, but should not be moved. thank you
