May 3, 2009 - It was Longshanks who expelled the Jews 1290 AD . Within a few weeks black suited Lombards appear ed on market day in English towns offering loans with no interest ;) 'I'd like 10 pounds' said an Englishman to a Lombard . 'I'll give you 8 now said the Lombard and at harvest time you pay me back 10 ' 'But that's interest ' said the Englishman. No it's not said the Lombard -It's a fee . But there's no difference then between you Lombards and the Jews ? tbc

IrishDubliner99 Says:

May 3, 2009 - 'There is a difference ' said the Lombard . 'What is it then ?' said the Englishman 'We're here and the Jews are not ' 'They (the jews ) are not a guiltless ' people, I agree . But then neither are the English , Germans , Irish , Russians , Spanish , Japanese , Egyptians , Indians ,Chinese or the CEO's of some Banks , Insurance companies - Credit card extortioners , Wall St thieves etc. What else is new ?

May 3, 2009 - i have to say i totally agree with what everyone has said so far so man i really have nothing else to tell you except that it was intertaining.

NonPCUploads Says:

May 3, 2009 - Don't compare Lombards to Jews. That is the height of ignorance.

May 3, 2009 - See ya. You won't be missed. In fact, I believe there's a program whereby you can surrender your passport and there's no need for your return.

streetmirage Says:

May 3, 2009 - I heard quite a different story about Richard the Lionhearted's ability to govern. In fact, many of the events mention I heard about from a different perspective.

IrishDubliner99 Says:

May 4, 2009 - The Lombards were the Pope's official moneylenders . It would not have been pc for the Pope to have to borrow from his crucifiers . . But hang on a minute it was the Romans who crucified him ? But then the Lombards were not Romans.

IrishDubliner99 Says:

May 4, 2009 - Richard II was very popular in Ireland . He spent 7 months in the country and received the submision of almost all the country's Irish chieftains and Norman lords . But he left without quite finishing the job and no sooner was he gone than the lads went back to what they preferred to do i.e fight for more cattle , land etc . Richard II was childless and had designated Roger Mortimer as his heir . Mortimer was Earl of Leix (modern Laois ) and part of Ulster .

IrishDubliner99 Says:

May 4, 2009 - Mortimer silly chap went into battle against Irish Chieftain Art Mc Murrough Kavanagh wearing not chain mail but a linen shirt and was killed. RIchard II was very upset and sailed for Ireland . He spent several months marching up and down the Wicklow mountains . After three months of chasing his tail he heard that Henry IV had raised an army against him . He returned to England was captured and was starved to death in prison by his successor . No Geneva convention eh?

May 7, 2009 - This is my favorite episode of the series., It's a shame it's also the last. I'd love to see Terry do an entire series just on The Kings of England.

hollywoodartchick Says:

May 8, 2009 - Jones has grown into an attractive older man, very energetic and fun to listen to. Great material and imagery here.

hollywoodartchick Says:

May 11, 2009 - But in St. Louis you have the Arch. ;D I must see those ruins sometime! I am wondering of paranormal investigators get calls there?

remeclerk Says:

May 11, 2009 - You can youtube the ruins (look under reading Abbey or/and Forbury Gardens), the Abbey is supposed to be haunted, not that I ever saw anything!, you will go one day!!-let me win the lottery 1st-LOL

hollywoodartchick Says:

May 11, 2009 - Ah, I am not surprised! Just the kind of place so invested in high emotions that the imprint stays around for a while. Hope you do win the lottery! We have a lot of haunts here, too. It is surprising how many ghosts actually hang out where there are lots of people, too - must have been party animals IRL. Hope St. Louis is sunny and mild today. Have not been there for many years, but my cousin still lives there. I am from IL.

remeclerk Says:

May 11, 2009 - After the rains St Louis is nice today, I need to get to lemp mansion thats supposed to be haunted ( yes im into ghosts too!) And surprise surprise my Cousin lives in redondo Beach!! (both eldest sons of twins!)

Aug 26, 2009 - Good for Terry standing up for Richard III! People need to know he was a good guy.

pitchwhiteawi Says:

Nov 10, 2009 - Terry's too harsh on Richard I, methinks. He didn't bother to mention that those 3,000 Muslims he 'massacred' were soldiers captured after the siege of Acre, whom he (hoped to have) used as offerings to Saladin to negotiate Saladin's surrender of lands around Acre. Saladin didn't outright refuse the ransom, he stalled and tip-toed around it to stall Richard. Richard couldn't keep his army still, and couldn't afford feeding/caring for the captured Muslim soldiers, so he had to result to execution

gymini29 Says:

Nov 10, 2009 - if you want to learn more about Richard II Terry Jones has written an extremely good book that covers the period, entitled WHO MURDERED CHAUCER? in it he goes into greater detail about RIchard 2, Henry iV and Henry V... as well as Chaucer
