Nov 16, 2009 - This is the best lesson ever. You can do totally and completely whatever you want with music... When you gain enough amount of playing by ear you can do whatever is going in your head and you gain total musical freedom. Just remember that you mustn't be limited like... someone for example is playing C chord and you remember that teacher taught you that some scale is good for this chord. You do whatever you want however you want, if it's going to sound bad to our ears whatever, its what you want.

AsatorTOX Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - no thats not true. if you remove pickups, you wont here sound from the amp. if you want to get a clean tone, just press the button for clean on your amp or pedal.
indubbley Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - @ACE101896 LOL! No, it's going to sound like an unplugged electric!
ACE101896 Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - i had a jackson i took out of the pickups it sounded like an acoustic or something but you notice he is missing two of his pickups
ACE101896 Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Any know where i can get the tab for the classical sort of middle eastern scale done in Holy Wars ?
ChaseWatkins Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - Why make the scales yourselves when there have been 3000 years of musicians who have worked a good deal of this stuff out for you?
ncripzx Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - @ChaseWatkins its coz hes a douchebag imho

Nov 22, 2009 - at 2:50 what does he mean by the 7 and 5 pattern?
zomgzomglawlawlawl Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - hes talking about alternating from patterns that contain 5 notes and 7 notes
rharris2727 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - a great middle eastern sounding scale is the harmonic minor scale its just a regular natural minor scale but with a 1 and a half tone distance between the 6th and 7th degrees
WastedRespect Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - @ChaseWatkins If everyone relies on the musicians of the past, what will we attain in the future. Marty could be making new scales which past musicians would never think of and this is his method.
WastedRespect Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - @metallicafan954 I believe it was a flameco lick acutally... just search for Holy Wars tabs and you should find it easily.
rustyrobato93 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - It's A melodic Major I believe. Every scale you can "make up" is already made so there goes that theory.
ChaseWatkins Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - Yeah but he took the time to reinvent the harmonic minor scale when that was done long ago. Perhaps it gives him a greater depth of understanding, having made the scale from the ground up but as far as I see it, all western music is is 12 notes, why spend too much time working through the basics when there are many other ways to, independent of studies on how to arrange these simple 12 notes, make music your own through expression in dynamics and note progression/arrangement etc.?
ChaseWatkins Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - And then again, there are musicians I respect like Hindemith so take whatever path to music that you wish :D efficiency isn't always a priority.
betteroffshred Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - I love reading these comments by total shitheads that are asking why does he bother doing this, or why does he bother doing that when someone else already does it for you. Yeah, you assclowns are questioning Marty Fuckin' Friedmans reasoning behind what he does. Hmmmm....because he's an awesome guitarist and you suck. Try some of his approaches and you just may do something on the instrument someday instead of playing armchair quarterback and totally blowing on guitar for the rest of your life.

Nov 16, 2009 - Please give me a Clue... Mr 'Acoustic Pickup' Man... Ha ha... Why would he need an Acoustic Pickup for an electric Guitar? which the Guitar in the Video clearly is, And Further more he has Re-verb on his amp while he plays this, Which is a form of Delay... Have a Nice day :)
