Oct 20, 2009 - Oh Snap!

benad1an Says:

Oct 22, 2009 - we will sustain ourselves forever, all it takes is the odd disaster that wipes out most of the earth....

linathequeen Says:

Oct 23, 2009 - omg this is horrible

object000 Says:

Oct 27, 2009 - Ah, but degrading bio-plastics release methane, which is MUCH worse for global warming than CO2. It would be ebtter to keep all plastics in a closed production/use cycle...

object000 Says:

Oct 27, 2009 - well, the moles that find it underground probably don't do any better than the fish and birds in the clip...

animereality360 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - how does it get into the ocean? (no i'm serious I want an answer) Do people deliberitly throw the garbage in the ocean I would think if it didn't go into the recyclables it goes in the trash. And if plastic goes in the trash it goes to the dump (IN THE GROUND) Are people just chucking off the boats or is there enough ship wrecks to bring up this much garbage? Common nobody ever thought that sinking cargo ships could have dropped all of this?

kjpg2005 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - How does it get there? Almost all of it begins as trash on city streets, hardly any of it from direct dumping into the ocean or at the beach. Urban runoff after rain collects it all into the storm drain system, which takes it to the ocean or nearest river. ocean currents concentrate it into this phenomenon. That bottle cap inside the albatross or fish travelled thousands of miles to get there. don't litter.

Oct 28, 2009 - holy shiit... that's serious

OBEYWEEGEE Says:

Nov 8, 2009 - Thats Fucking Horrible

Deftonesrc Says:

Nov 9, 2009 - So here we have a tangible problem that threatens the environment, and yet these environmental green assholes are worried about some junk-science-based global warming? Their sincerity is clear to me.

curingaging00 Says:

Nov 11, 2009 - we should really clean this up! when are we going to clean this place up?

snowdevil831 Says:

Nov 11, 2009 - Its not a problem of when, its how...

dombon6 Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - If we look at this as an environmental problem, no one is going to want to spend the money to deal with it (except broke not for profits)- if we look at it as the petrolium goldmine that it is, companies will love to make money off it. Thermal depolymerization is a process that breaks plastics back into crude oil. There are several videos on youtube on generating energy from ocean waves (to give energy to a floating factory to do this). Making profits, creating jobs, and free us of foreign oil

dombon6 Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - oil generated this way also = cheaper gas, while generating a higher profit for the producer, according to wikipedia

onionofdeath Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - this is bullshit. lets take some of those container ships, fill em up, break this shit down into oil! Or lets recycle it...its already sorted out!

dombon6 Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - Apparently this works for all types of plastics, it just requires a lot of energy making it expensive. Provided that it does work for all types of plastics, and that sufficient energy can be generated from these machines that harness wave energy (which I've heard that some of these work pretty well), this can work for relatively cheap dispite, maybe, the initial cost. In the end its just an idea. We need to leave it to people who can profit off it instead of requiring govts to spend billions

davo16747 Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - but ive been in the ocean and i didnt see any plastic

toechesse Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - looks like intentional dumping.

10564 Says:

Nov 18, 2009 - humans are fucking disgusting

yoshiden09 Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - this is huge,we should stop trowing garbage in to the oceans and the streets... i mean if we all start by not littering it could make a big difference

RudraHanuman Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - HOLLLLY HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL........ What the F@@@@@@@@ck we are doing? Now WHAAAAAAAAAT? How to change our behavior? OK....I hv an Idea....Stop manufacturing plastics. Lets find out all the huge plastic manufacturers and fight against them. No, no....tats not right....if we stop using plastic then they will stop producing plastic, but, we won't stop. mmm......errrr.......puffffff.

Gumchewinhairdresser Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Isn't it disgusting how far we have come in technology but we keep doing this mess. Shows how lazy an selfish we are. An under the thumbs of the powers that be. We try to stop the plastic companies we will have the same fight on our hands that we do on cap an trade an health reform. I read someone's comment on another vid like this an he said Fuck you I'm an American in a free country I can do what I want. That is the mentality we are up against. Crazy isn't it

burden2thecrown Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - try to see how long you can go without purchasing any items with plastic...bet you wont last a week.

Amalgam80 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - not even a day

dgo2009708 Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - Even if we stopped manufacturing plastics tomorrow, the amount of it we've dumped on the world is still staggering. It's a part of our every day life, you can't get away from it. Plastics will be around for thousands of years even if no more was made. I'm reading The World Without Us right now for my Environmental Science studies, it's a really good book that I think everyone should read. Check it out. It talks about the whole plastic problem and junk..
