Nov 16, 2009 - Actually, I agree with dodgyman. If you played a wind instrument, you wouldn't be impressed by this performance. His phrasing was good, and the recording in the background certainly makes his performance more dramatic, but I personally don't think he displayed much 'talent' here. The real talent is that of the producers who framed his performance so well.

Nov 17, 2009 - Ugh, to all the instrumentalists on here who are saying, "Oh this piece is easy, he's not that good," Yes this piece isn't the most difficult in the world, I've played it on the trumpet several times. He could have tried a more difficult piece and not played it with the same effect. He was right to choose that song and he played it VERY well so leave him alone and stop being so bigheaded just because you've played more difficult pieces yourself. Think you can do better? Then go to the audition.

Nov 17, 2009 - I'm not even sure that people who play wind instruments are qualified to call this easy. Sopsax =/= generic wind instrument I can't say that this guy sucks at soprano saxophone because I play trombone. To be honest, I stand by my initial opinion of him that he's very good. There's more to music that difficult rhythms or note patterns: Julian's special because of the soul he puts into his music, and the soprano sax is an instrument that is incredibly reflective of the soul of its player.

Nov 18, 2009 - its not about playing hard music its about how well his intonation is I would like to see you play with a beautiful intonation not many people has such a beautiful sound as he does. the soprano saxophone is an instrument that is hard to tune and his soprano is well in tune which makes it beautiful song.

Nov 20, 2009 - As a saxophone player, I have to agree that the piece isn't what's challenging. The REAL challenge is putting emotion into the music and making it pleasing to listen to. Play all the 32nd notes you want, but it's nothing without emotion and musicality. That's what the saxophone is all about.
