The electric castle was caused by a forever who brought the humans to a place to test them. Also, in the electric castle, there are characters who affect the major storyline IE: the hippy is "Mr. L" (at least it is implied so).

I just discovered Ayreon because I heard Jonas was featured in a song and damn....gotta check more out. My favourite section here was from 4:40-7:12 - GOOSEBUMPS. I love the contrast between Jonas vocal delivery and Anneke coming in right after.
