Apr 25, 2009 - During World War II the military draft, if you drafted and passed a physical, you were a I-A, or fit for service...he just doesn't wanna go cause he passed the physical. If you were 4-F, you failed and were rejected by the military (also in this cartoon).

May 9, 2009 - It was "Heap Corny Gag" actually. Personally I thought it was funny! Normally i hate stereotypes, but when you consider the fact that toons can get away with *anything*....

Aug 1, 2009 - JIMMY DURANTE! I LOVE HIS LINES! "Ha-cha-cha!" "What a repulsive way to make a living." "Everybody wants to get into the act!" Oh, this is good, there was this Popeye cartoon (forgot title, it was a few months ago) where Popeye imitated Jimmy, it went something like this: "A lady came up to me on the street and asked me to take that banana out of my mouth. I said 'That's no banana, that's my nose.'" LOL! XD

Oct 6, 2009 - The town cryer was used to 'cry out' town news, this was obviously before newspapers. (I prefer newspapers, they don't give you laryngitis! XD).
Blakefe Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - no i mean why was he holding I-A
Mr76Yearsago Says:
Oct 25, 2009 - You'd have to be over 80 years old or a historian to appreciate all the brilliant wartime satire Tex Avery put into this cartoon. The Jimmy Durante takeoff was obvious. But, hardly suttle was conservative MGM studios slap at Steinbecks "the Grapes of Wrath" with the Oklahoma 4-F Trailer and the Lockheed overalls.. with so many of those people having gotten great paying jobs in the War at California defense industry plants.
Mr76Yearsago Says:
Oct 25, 2009 - Yes, that cartoon produced by Paramont in 1940 was a tribute to Vaudville .Popeye also spoofed Groucho Marx in it, But, I can't remember the title.too. As a boy, I had the chance to shake hands with Mr. Durante (in 1967) . It was true what some one once said "You could warm yourself if cold and hungry on this man ."
ForeignerD Says:
Oct 26, 2009 - What's up with the half breed native?
MWolfL Says:
Oct 28, 2009 - That was to explain *why* he was crying, 1-A means that you've been accepted into the army and he obvioulsy didn't want to go.
firespin97 Says:
Nov 1, 2009 - IM JOE
MWolfL Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Meaning he was a nice guy?
Mr76Yearsago Says:
Nov 7, 2009 - Yes, Mr. Durante was the nicest ever to grace Hollywood.
