Mar 14, 2009 - It's a magnificent movie about vampires (or is that a metaphor? You decide.) It's the ultimate lesbian date movie and a true cult classic.

Aug 22, 2009 - Miriam wasn't bisexual. She was without inherant sexual preference, and as a Keeper was boundless when it came to finding a companion. I know its weird, but the Blaylock trilogy state she's an alien being, unable to comprehend human sexuality or even embrace it outside of fufilling her own selfish needs. Note how she was obviously considering Alice as a suitable mate, and Alice was a child in the film. Miriam, an evil being has no underlining sexuality as we know it in any form.
HugFan Says:
Sep 1, 2009 - The movie clearly wasn't tryng to say she was an alien. And there will never be a sequel to find out for sure.

Sep 7, 2009 - Reply to HugFan, Read the book. Its all explained in it.

Oct 10, 2009 - I'm not across the Blaylock trilogy, but such a situation does occur, especially in women. They are forced to wear the label of 'bisexual', when they see themselves as just 'sexual'. Their attraction is initially emotional, and gender does not matter. It can then become expressed sexually, but this is somewhat secondary to the emotional element which propels and sustains the relationship.
noirkitten Says:
Oct 11, 2009 - Yes, well though I've never had any desire to express any emotion sexually with another woman, I suppose it can and does happen (though to be quite frank, the few women I've known who've made this expression usually felt led to by the failure of men, thus I render it problematic). However, Miriam is hardly the prime candidate for exploration into any female psyche. She's a sociopathic monster who hardly represents gay, straight or bi women well with her predatory and decietful nature.
ekydami Says:
Oct 11, 2009 - To a point I agree. Miriam for me is quite 'genderless'. Deneuve is so successful in her portrayal of Miriam, that for a lesbian, she ceases to be female, and the homoerotic content relates mainly to Sarandon's character's own development. I also find it curious that women are often attracted to partners with a very dark side, regardless of gender.
noirkitten Says:
Oct 11, 2009 - I see her as genderless also, the designer clothes, material goods merely her mask. She's a creature, a thing. I find it odd lesbians have taken to the character and the film so, when really she's the worst possible representation- a selfish, cold, uncaring spider-woman who seduces via mind manipulation (Miriam seems to have some psychic power over Sara) a woman bethrothed to a decent person. And lets not forget poor John in the attic! lol.
noirkitten Says:
Oct 11, 2009 - As for the desires of women, the women I've known have always searched for said romantic darkness in guys, only to be hurt by it. The two girls I knew who 'jumped the fence' ended up with violent women who were mentally dominating and abusive (the lesbian never really accepted her, and believed her capable of cheating with a 'breeder'). I suggested, after she freed herself and found herself besotted with a guy at work to maybe let go of this quest and define herself less by her romantic desires.
ekydami Says:
Oct 12, 2009 - In the 80s and some would say even now, there is such a deficit of any representations of lesbians in literature and film, that ANY character is cherished, just for the fact she is suggested to be a lesbian character. When we are starved, we can and do eat anything. Many 'lesbian' characters are constructs of male fantasy, and their idea of lesbian love making is quite fantastic. Still we will wade though drossand drivel to savour the most minute clue of sapphic love. *sigh*

Jul 11, 2008 - Too bad for Sarandon, any other actress look average beside C. Deneuve. I am french and i assure you, even in french Catherine's demeanor and voice are too hot, icy, classy and sexy.
