Nov 14, 2009 - This my favorite setting of the Lacrimosa text. (second favorite is from the Berlioz Requiem) I'm amazed how effectively Mozart sets up the plagal cadence at the very end. As many times as I listen to this peice, I never hear that final Dmaj. chord coming. Hair-rasingly gorgeous, that. and the best dissonance in the peice (for me) occurs exactly 1:10-1:11 in the video.

Nov 16, 2009 - The end to this piece does not do the work as a whole justice. I just wish Mozart had finished this work before he had died. His 2nd best student finished it for him, and it's obvious. This piece would be the greatest of all time had Mozart completed it.

Nov 22, 2009 - well he didnt actually finish it, his student finished the last part, and many people believe the last line wouldnt have been put in by mozart he would have ende it another way.

Nov 22, 2009 - i think i've read somewhere that he knew he was dying, he wanted this for his own funeral... sad...

xhannahxonealx Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - I'm studying music history now, and it says when he was lieing in his bed, close to dying, he asked his wife and some friends to sing him the first part of this requiem. He burst out crying because he had the feeling he'd been working on his own reqiuem, and the fact that the order came from an anonymous man made him think it was from death itself. Turned out it was from some duke or something. it's really sad :(

howycwap Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - yeah, he was payed to write this requiem, because the person wanted to claim it as his own. and as mozart was finishing it, he realized (thought) that he was writing his own requiem and when he finished it he would die. When he died im not sure they played this at his funeral, but he was buried in a common grave (a hole with a bunch of people in it) since he was in debt.

ftumschk Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - "Turned out it was from some duke or something" The Count von Walsegg zu Stuppach (crazy name, crazy guy!), who anonymously commissioned Mozart to write the Requiem for his recently-deceased wife, intending to pass it off as his own work. Walsegg apparently did go on to present a performance of parts of the Requiem - pretending he'd written it himself - two years after Mozart's death.

Lufty25 Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - no some say when he was righting the song he was killing himself

THyperon Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - Mozart didnt finish the Requiem. F.X. Süßmayr, a pupil of Mozart, did it later.

howycwap Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - thats what i said, well sort of i didnt say he finished it, i just said he died and i wasnt sure if they played it at his funeral.

mudpec Says:
