They can be adjusted to have more or less power and since most people buy this caliber of pedal for speed they trade speed for power when adjusting and setting up their pedal. you can adjust for these and axis for power if you choose to. the direct drive system is designed to relay all your energy unlike chains through which some of your effort is lost.

Sep 20, 2009 - A direct drive will never have the same power as a chain because of the less mass and atrict in the pedal... They are more sensible and smooth, but it dos not translates you will play better with this kind of pedal. I prefer the double chains!

Sep 21, 2009 - When i tried it, it was unbelievablely quick and light but its not the pedal for me. some pedals can be to light or to quick and i like them in the middle but it is an excellent pedal, i'd reccomend it to everyone who plays drums

Oct 20, 2009 - I have been playing for 20 years. I have heard everything about every pedal. I have played every pedal to come out that was "big". This pedal if very very smooth and can be adjusted. Now when i say that i am refering to the fact that this pedal is of course going to be smooth and it feels great. But even i who like the pedal noted i may have to adjust it to get more of what i want out of it. Pearl is a great company but they stress "you can adjust it to find what YOU want out of it."
