They had little to no contact with anyone from the mainland - because they didn't want to because of their attitude towards the Chinese. Hence why their race is so "pure" if you want to call it that. It's nice for all of the "play" soldiers online to admire this march and claim China is great because of it, but in reality China has a LONG way to go to even become a regional power. Russia, India, Japan, and both Koreas, especially the South, all could stand up to China, INDIVIDUALLY. China also lacks the ability to project power far away from their borders, so they aren't a threat to anyone really. A bunch of other problems too.

China has capital/economic leverage and massive domestic product which it can use against the rest of the world's great powers. It cannot be ignored, and in that sense it has acted more wisely and prudently than the west.
