Sep 20, 2009 - difference between smash and uppercut - it's the range - the uppercut is at close range. The smash is more middle range as you can see and it is a diagonal motion coming from the lower left up center between the guard. Because the range is different the stance is different and the motion is different - therefore a different punch. That's what I see - I could be wrong though ^_^
