Oct 19, 2009 - I actually looked up what the actually sephiroth meant in the middle of the lecture. The currently developed Dante's Inferno and Halo 3 ODST Inferno references motivated me to read the actual book. Now that's tangential learning!

Oct 31, 2009 - I genially enjoy your very few lectures. They are engaging and fun to watch and listen. I just wish you did more but I guess you can't pour out video over video. Good work and hope to see more.

Nov 6, 2009 - Coming across uncommonly used words in games(more so with RPGS)can definitely expand your vocabulary.

Nov 10, 2009 - This is kind of what happened to me when I played Assassin's Creed, I got curious, and became fascinated by the time period. and now I want to be a historian :D (I'm also making a website for AC2 that talks about the historical aspects of the game for other people who might get interested in that sort of thing)
PinkyKillerCat Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - I learned english playing Fallout 2 and Fallout 1 along with some scientific terms and whole mechanics of nuclear explosions ; ]

Nov 11, 2009 - Awesome, I totally agree with you! :) I started watching history shows on TV about the Templars after AC I :D they were really smart :)

Nov 12, 2009 - 3:37-3:41 THIS. The Three Kingdoms era has become one of my favorite periods in history. I've read Romance of The Three Kingdoms many times, and I have also studied the historically accurate accounts since the novel is Romanticized. Without the Dynasty Warriors series, I would never have know this period in history even existed.
samuraikatana1 Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - Other examples: Final Fantasy swords Masamune and Muramasa. I now know they were legendary Japanese sword makers. Ace Combat series. I have become more interested in the types of fighter craft in the military and can tell you most of their names by looking at them (eg. F22 Raptor etc). The point is that tangential learning is a great tool that should continue to be used because people will be more inclined to research and learn more about topics that appeal to them.
FacesOfThree Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - The same happend to me when i sw tin mass effect the Mag rail guns they had and found out they exist im fascinated by the science of games.
Cornicer1 Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - Yeah; same here. Very interesting to find the real history during that time. AC2 will be even better in this regard-they're adding a database with historical information about landmarks and historical characters.
Throgan Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - I like the topic, but this doesn't seem like a very fulfilling solution. Learning isn't all about facts, unless you like winning Trivial Pursuit. I'd love to know more about how you would use games (maybe through Tangential Learning?) to teach a process, like even math and science. Logic puzzles are a start, and even "The Incredible Machine" line of games basically teach engineering. Star Wars Droid Works is I think the best example of an educational game ever. How can we replicate that?
JKOT05 Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - I think it would be good if use something that i already know to gain some advantage in game. For example in FPS i could avoid nasty gunfight in lobby of Fibonacci plaza if i enter code :11235813213455 etc.
