Nov 23, 2009 - ""Noah's Ark - It is stupid to even think this is real considering we are still discovering new creatures on a daily basis."" And??... "Parting of the Red Sea - How could this be possible in the World of Physics?" Well, no Christian believe it happened as a NATURAL outcome of the laws of Physics, now do we?

calomie Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - ""Vigin Birth - I don't think so.....she was scuttled by some one or it is impossible. She obviously didn't want to tell Joseph she cheated, the dirty bitch."" Presupposition against miracles and the supernatural. Resurrection: The claim of the resurrection is a Historical claim and if any argument is to be given for or against it, it should be by using the historical method, not the scientific method.

greengrendel Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - that's so annoyong, Creationists are always like "prove it! show us the fossils! show us the missing link!" And when evolutionists say, "Hey, isn't it a bit unlikey that a woman had a kid without having sex first?" Creationists answer "prove it's isn't true!"

calomie Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - Again, over and over again, I've said on this very comment thread that I'm no longer a YEC. And I would agree with you that left to natural devices, Mary would have never had a child without the fertilization of a male sperm. Btw, the virgin birth of Jesus by Mary is itself not something science can determine for us, at least not before history.

greengrendel Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - I don't care what a yec is, I just don't buy that Creationists first say they don't need to prove their stuff, but say scientists do.

calomie Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - Young Earth Creationist. Christian doesn't equate to Creationist all the time, greengrendel. And I'm not saying that Christians don't have to prove their stuff, I'm just saying that in the beginning we need to establish what our biases are and what the best method for determining the truth about a certain issue before we go on...

greengrendel Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - I admit I'm uncomfortable disbelieving anything in the life of Jesus, given my Christian upbringing, and the respect I have for the figure of Jesus, the man. I think I never really believed in any of the "old" biblical myths, which is probably due to the fact I'm not American, and I see you're at a disadvantage there. The true wrenching moment is when what you've always thought normal: for me, the whole life of Jesus, turns out to be IMpossible. I both cannot believe it nor refute it.

greengrendel Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - (cont.) But in my hearth, AND with my brain, I know some facts canNOT have happened. Something else must have happened, and it hurts that we can't go back and separate the truth from the lies, or "decorations" added perheps in later years. Jesus was a great man and I fully believe in his philosophy. But if only we could believe in him without the fires of hell or the delights of heaven to back him up. (sorry if I use wrong words, english in't my first language.)

greengrendel Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - ...That was vague, summing up: -You say "you can't tell if a miracle happened or not without a historical study" -I agree that a historical study would be great to give me more security, and to see what really happened. -But also I don't think it needs to be PROVED that an impossible thing did not happen, because, since it's impossible, it hasn't.

Nov 23, 2009 - Greengrendel: Two questions that I like to ask Atheists is "Does space end? If it does, what's after it".... No scientist can answer that question. Not one! Only God knows!

Entertainmentwf Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - wow... you're stupid LOL. Answer is I don't know. No magic will tell you the answer.

pervious1 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - No. Nothing. Two questions answered. Try asking a difficult question, like, for instance, why do you have an invisible man in your head? Do you think that insanity is catching? Do you believe in lying to children? Do you think that the Bible is a moral fairy tale? Do you think that it's a good idea to wipe out most of the population of the planet because people choose, by their own 'God given given right' to behave exactly as they want? Why am I such a prick?

jpandyaraja Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - BILL AND CHARLES DARWIN MAKE THE SAME POINT....i dont believe in religion but that doesnt mean i am an atheist...

Menla1 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - yes it means ur an anti theist

Menla1 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - then prove jesus died on the cross and was resurrected when theres no historical reference to it OUTSIDE of the bible?

53dumey Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - mushu144....................................... I DO DIS AGREE ! Reading the Bible Does'nt make you an expert. Try LEARNING the Bible, maybe then you will stop making such an Ignorant Ass of yourself. Maybe, maybe Not !

mushu144 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - Why would anyone just read something and not try to learn and understand it? You're projecting the idea that i never tried learning what was in the bible. that's plain silly. I know very well about what I'm talking about. I presume, with your comment, that you never questioned with the right questions what you just read. most of what you learned were probably taught to you by others.

mushu144 Says:

Nov 23, 2009 - I challenge you to give statements in the bible that were not contradicted by anything in the bible itself.

calomie Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - "wtf has religion done to help anyone " 1) The development of Modern English: John Wycliffe's English translation of the Bible along with the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer were the first steps towards our modern English language. 2) The creation and development of modern Universities began first as Cathedral Schools, then Monastaries, then full blown universeities such as Oxford, Cambridge.

calomie Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - 3) Boethius preserved for the Mideval Western world some possibility of exposure to Aristotle as well as writing the Consolation of Philosophy. 4) Martin Luther's translation into German of the Bible is a large contributor to the development of modern German. 5) To give the Muslims some credit, the mideval Muslims who invaded Europe restored to the Western World the works of Aristotle to a greater degree. Should I go on, or are you getting the picture?

calomie Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - With all due respect 53dumey, but your ranting and yelling isn't doing you quite so well either.

calomie Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - 6) During the Renaissance, the "humanists" (which only means they studied the humanities, IOW languages) were dedicated to learning Hebrew and Greek, and in so doing they brought back into Western Culture not only more accurate translations of the Bible, but also brought back other works of antiquity, such as the works of the philosophers. These were men of the Church. "Humanist" here isn't to be mistaken with secular humanism of today. Two different things are meant.

calomie Says:

Nov 24, 2009 - 7) While there were many Christians who supported the slavery of Africans, one of the main enemies of the Slave Trade in the 19th Century was John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.
