His interactions with Lily indicate that his brand of "love" would likely be obsessive, controlling and creepy; the word "stalkerish" comes to mind. His treatment of Harry demonstrates extreme cruelty and sadism toward someone who had never wronged him. That and real love are like oil and water; I simply don't think they can exist in the same heart.
