maitriparamita Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - I guess a Professional Hobbit should know whether Gandalf is gay too - or is it just Sir Ian McKellen?
maitriparamita Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - And the same bit of the Old Testament says that eating shellfish and trimming your beard are 'abominations' too. Why not just ignore all of this tribal nonsense and base your moral decisions on common sense instead?
PurrfectPeach Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Isn't the prevailing notion of what constitutes common sense a cultural construct as well, albeit a contemporary one? Not a Christian, just sayin'...
TheRussianRastaman Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - i did not see that coming.........wow.
maitriparamita Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Elderly American preachers are tearing their hair out over the sexual orientation of Dumbledore (and Tinky Winky) - whilst for these three actors, and everyone else under 25, someone's sexual orientation is simply no longer a matter of interest or concern.
maitriparamita Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - At least nowadays we try to give logical reasons for what we think is right or wrong, rather than relying purely on obedience to tradition. The common sense approach today is that something is wrong only if it has a victim - if it causes suffering to someone against their will - and that therefore there is no reason to condemn Dumbledore to eternal hellfire. That's the logic that the legal system and most writers on ethics use today.
mallgurl101 Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - It doesnt really make a difference to me. But it does make sense when you think about it.
iamBellaCullennotu Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - wow i nvr got that and i read all the books and ive seen all the movies more than once. i dont care and i am a christian. doesnt shock me one bit either. -shrugs- though it does kinda make since now that you think about it....
SidheKnight Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Truer words have never been said!
bosoxdanc1 Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - JK Rowling tried to be brave about doing this, but she announced it well after the book had come out. It was really unnecessary to be honest, and in my opinion, was just for more publicity.
gimmins Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - I don't think this is any issue, since the people who are calling it abomination are Christians, and they don't watch Harry Potter because they believe magic goes against the bible.
l0gically Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - So what you're saying is that in order for an attraction to be "homosexual" there has to be sex involved?
mstar217 Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Theres a reason its called an old testament. Christians believed in the New Testament for the last several thousand years.
hobokken817 Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - so does he play homosexual in the movie? or is he actually homosexual?
PurrfectPeach Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Fair enough, and thanks for bothering to reply. My only response would be, there are many people who believe that "because my ancestors have been doing it this way for thousands of years" is a logical reason. And I can respect that - though when it comes to trying to force others to follow their traditions, they lose my sympathy, and I think people should always question what they are taught even if they end up agreeing.
monkeyfied Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - That isn't very fair to the woman, I'd have to say.
monkeyfied Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - I'm not sure your point of view here. Like Emma said, it really made sense in retrospect.
paultaki Says:

Rkc96 Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - really?... i think j.k. rowling should release a book on all the stuff she didnt exactly put in the books. (if she hasnt already)
tapdawg8 Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - The character is gay...not the actor. Well, the actor may be too...idk.
Sleyah Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - Regardless of what any one person feels about Dumbledore being gay, what I can't understand is how some people claim it has had a negative effect on their enjoyment or fondness of the series. Why? There's absolutely no inclination in the books that would even imply that he is gay, so what does it matter that he is? For all we know, Rowling came up with this in her sleep after the last book was released. What other things have she decided about her characters that we don't know about?
stonermcgeeee Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - He's not even real. Why would you want to include that? Oh, by the way, Dumbledore is gay. JK Rowling played you all nobody really cares about harry potter anymore so for attention and sales she outed him
NoGamesNoLife Says:
Jul 13, 2009 - shes making an 8th book

ProfessionalHobbit Says:
Jul 12, 2009 - Why is that not okay?
