Since, ramanujan is said to have found some algorothm for pi (ratio of circle circumference/ diameter) which is quite useful in cosmology while dealing with unimaginably long distances, and for encryption in uses such as in internet or banking transactions,etc. One need not know cosmology, internet or banking techniques, to know and admire, how ramanujan work has found suchhi end uses he may not have imagined himself.
