Althusser was into something like this (the way we are manipulated by the group, even by powerful individuals who 'represent' society and its norms, into behaving a certain way (it was this deep social conditioning that the existentialists took a stand against). However, I think art and humour are actually counter-forces that break down conditioning. I see where you're coming from tho'. Thx you too for a civilised debate.
