Nov 20, 2009 - the pistons did it without any real superstars

TenDollarTicket Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - True, but Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace, and Hamilton were all all-stars multiple times in their careers, and all have been on multiple all-star teams since. They may your prototypical superstars but all of them (save for Ben Wallace), could give you 20-25 night in and night out. Hakeem had only one guy who had made an all-star team (Thorpe in 91-92), Cassell did make one 10 years later. However if you compare lineups the Pistons were stacked compared to the Rockets.

TenDollarTicket Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - They were the last Team to get it done. But Olajuwon single handily led his team through the regular season then dominated in the playoffs beating out Barkley's suns and destroying Malone's jazz (although malone got payback in 96-97). If you took one of those guys off the pistons roster they are still a playoff team maybe not a championship team, but they be a tough out. Take Hakeem off those Rockets and they are a lottery team. Pistons were the last great team the NBA saw.

Nov 20, 2009 - rasheed is crap. All he does is take bad three pointers.

Nov 20, 2009 - They were great as a team but none of them were superstars, im just commentin on what you had said earlier that you have to have a superstar to win a championship, and billups, wallace x2, hamilton and prince were not superstars at all, they were all good players but none were superstars, that team had a good system step by rick carlisle aand a deep bench, and thats how they got the job and larry brown just reap the benefits of what was years in the making b4 him by carlisle

TenDollarTicket Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - True but I would rather have a lineup with an an all-star at pretty much every position, and a deep veteran bench then a team with one superstar and a bunch of role players and scrubs. I don't know I think it was harder for Olajuwon going through a stacked Western Conference, then the Pistons going through what was wildly considered a JV to the Wests Varsity at that time. You make a good point but in my mind it's two completely different situations.
