Oct 3, 2009 - That is awesome. I remember when I was still in school and did not work full time. Used to go camping a lot at summer and I tamed squirrels to eat from my hand. They're a lot of fun to have around. They also enjoy Reeses peanut butter cups. They can almost fly when you give them one...

Oct 6, 2009 - lol pretty cool experiment

Hippysticker Says:

Oct 6, 2009 - im pretty sure he can smell the nuts underneath the cups

die4uyes Says:

Oct 7, 2009 - So how do they find food if they aren't sniffing for it? How do they know what to eat? I fucking love the squirrels in my neighborhood. They are so cute going nuts over nuts.

ccreepyo Says:

Oct 13, 2009 - cool video i love squirrels they are cute and anyone who hates them is nuts no pun intended

lunislevin Says:

Oct 14, 2009 - i say it has nothing to do with smell, or the senses. Notice how he keeps going to the 4th pot? no matter the color of the pot. they count the 4th one down and go directly to it.because it was placed there a few times. its memory. like using a landmark, or counting houses to find a friends house.

Tettuli Says:

Oct 26, 2009 - But in 1:31 it looks under the red cup, and the nuts wasn't there.

C0r3f1ght3rZ Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - Yep, one squirrel stole Snickers from my pocket :P

Flankersquirrels Says:

Oct 31, 2009 - I watched your interesting video without the audio output. It proved indeed that in this simple case the squirrel found back his food, that he originally found by his smell, by using his memory. In case of finding their nuts that they buried in large areas though, they always rely first on their memory and then on their sense of smell. That's why they constantly sniff the ground to relocate the food they buried. Squirrels remember well the area where they buried food but not the exact spot.

Flankersquirrels Says:

Oct 31, 2009 - I am happy to tell you that you, as someone who appreciates the gray squirrels, are one of the few British people, who is saving the face and the honor of your British nation. I am referring to the MASS-MURDER of the same adorable gray squirrels that you have been feeding, committed by the British people in the last year alone. Those despicable, depraved, evil barbarians have murdered hundreds of thousand of the gray squirrels under the false pretext of saving the British red squirrels.

Flankersquirrels Says:

Oct 31, 2009 - Some of the gray (eastern) squirrels do hibernate and estivate. Not the whole winter- and summertime, though, obviously. They do it for the time from a couple of days to several weeks. In fact, one of my squirrels Shortail was estivating in her nest five days when she fell tragically onto the street below to her death.

KaL976 Says:

Oct 31, 2009 - Indeed. Not all grey squirrels carry the virus that kills reds. Squirrels, like hedgehogs, are at the extent of their range here in the U.K. if we really want to keep reds for future generations not needlesly cull the greys we should invest more in island colonies as there's no other way to segregate them. Brownsea Island I believe already has a pure red squirrel population, for example.

Mappyman Says:

Nov 11, 2009 - interesting video, youd think hed smell it out

maverick90723 Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - i think it's true he does recognize places and landmarks, but I'm wondering if he ever looked for the nuts under every cup. My squirrel recognizes places and knows where things are at those places. he even lets out faint smells of his musk to mark his territory

Lizatar5 Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - god people one sentance comments lol
