Nov 7, 2009 - I watched this remake recently and it doesn't hold up to the original for me. I watched the original as a kid (I'm still only 16 now and love Johnny Depp) but the original just seems more magical. I think it's because I know they didn't have the special effects of today and they did brilliantly with what they had. Plus I prefer the old grandad and Willy Wonka himself in the old ones, as well as the wonderful songs.

Nov 7, 2009 - The parts that made me laugh so loud is when he hits the glass elevator !!! lol Johnny Depp is the best actor !!! :D "could you imagine Agustus choclate covered Gloup . . . eeew no one would buy it. "

Nov 8, 2009 - I totally agree with you the original was better. I mean to me it was more heart warming if you know what I mean this one was too cold. And I really didn't like the music in this remake. Some people may argue that the remake is better because it followed the book more. Well I read the book and it does follow it more however I still like the original movie better than the remake.

Nov 21, 2009 - I decided to watch the trailer to this because it sort of reminded me of Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland coming out next year. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors of all time, but I have to admit, I did not like him in this movie at all. He gave Willy Wonka a very weird, sarcastic attitude, which can be detected from the trailer alone. The original is much, much better than the remake.

Johnny123456789x Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - It's not a remake. _ It's an adaptation of the original book, and a much closer one, actually.
Johnny123456789x Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - This is *not* a remake of the old film. It's an adaptation of the original book, and it's actually much closer to the source material.
Sashastube Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - In a sense it is though, because the book has been made into a film before (Willy Wonka...) and they have decided to make a film of the book once again. As well as this, they have no doubt looked at the original film to see what they can do to make this version different and new compared. It wouldn't have been ignored. No doubt if the original did what they wished to do with this, this film would not have been made. Do you get what I'm trying to say? I found it a bit hard to explain.
Johnny123456789x Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - I get it, but I know that at least the scriptwriter didn't watch the original. He had neverseen it, and when he asked whether he should watcn it Burton told him not to, so they could get an entirely fresh perspective.
Sashastube Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Some people would have had to though because otherwise they could have ended up making the film exactly the same, which would have sort of defied the point.
JonnyDemelo Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - It's hard to notice at first when watching the original, especially as a child, but Wilde's Wonka is EXTREMELY sarcastic. Just thought I'd point that out... :P
