Oct 27, 2009 - +1 Not to mention that Maeda spent quite a bit of time training with English Catch wrestlers before making his way to Brazil.
sumoshinobi Says:
Oct 31, 2009 - bjj and judo are not totally different butt they are not totally the same they are like 50% the same
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Really? And which parts of his commentary led you think that?
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Well the gun thing and Bas has allways try to challenge Rickson Gracie to a fight
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - ohh that! Bas is a funny guy, and a nice guy too. He's always sayin stuff like that, I don't think he means bad by it. About Bas wanting to fight Rickson - he challenged him once I think, and this is before Rickson's fight with Funaki who Bas had said would definitely beat Rickson (we all saw what happened there). Actually Funanki beat Bas well in their match, and Rickson destroyed Funaki.
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - not ones but many times
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Not ones but many times, Rickson dont fight guys that are top at there game, only when he knows that they have injuries, when Funaki beat Bas that was in 94 ( Bas beat him in 96 ) Rickson beat Funaki in 2000, there is a reason why Rickson fought Funaki in 2000 and not early 90s simply because 90s Funaki would beat the shit out of him, Rickson has only 11 real pro fights ( from 1980 to 2000, only 11 fights in 20 years and dont get seriously hurt or injuries ) against some low B fighters where as
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Funaki have been in wars against some of the best fighters in the world ( since 93 Funaki had 49 fights before meeting Rickson, you get more injuries when you have fought 49 than 11 fights) Marco The King of the Streets Ruas has challenge Rickson since 80s but Rick dident because Marco was to hardcore for him and the same wite Bas Rutten.....
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - And dont come wite that bullshit Rickson had 400 fights, his own father (Helio) says that is a joke.....
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - Actually when they fought rickson was wayyy past his prime, the guy was 42 then I think. You're forgetting that Rickon came from a different era and time where MMA didnt exist. What did exist was completely 'no rules' fights in Brazil, along with the hundreds of challenge matches which he fought in when he was younger. All respect to Funaki and so on, and any fighter can be another on his day,
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - but there is simply no way even that he would've beat Rickon on the ground, and you can sure the fight would have always ended down there. Rickson earned his black belt in 1980, at the age of 18, and has never been tapped in competition. As a matter of fact, nobody has ever come forth claiming to have tapped him OUTSIDE of competition. To this day, there are testimonies of current jiu jitsu greats praising him.
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - No. In an interview, Helio did say that he didn't consider Rickson as being 400-0, because he did not consider closed-door challenges to be professional fights. He went on to claim that, by that standard, he himself would have won over a thousand fights ( quite likely, considering how famous he was and the span of his career). Helio was probably the most popular Gracie champion, having fought over a dozen times in full stadiums, in the presence of national authorities.
romanazazel Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - That is what he considered a record-worthy fight. In short, he did not consider challenge fights something to call a record, but he did not dispute that Rickson did in fact win over 400 challenges without ever losing.
munk25 Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - sparring is not fighting
romanazazel Says:
Nov 6, 2009 - Sparring? lol, these challenge matchs with no rules, if anything much more dangerous than the rule ridden UFC we have today. Anyway who cares, there will always be people like you around. Not too long ago fighters such as Andre Galvao, Demian Maia, Nino Schembri, Paulo Filho, Royce Gracie, and Ricardo Arona , Frank Shamrock and Noguira who himself said Rickson had tapped him multiple times and he himself hadn't managed a single submission when went to roll with him.
romanazazel Says:
Nov 6, 2009 - The list goes on and NO one has even come forward to even bullshit about having tapped him out, ever. That says it all. Anyway I guess you opinion is more valid than those professional fighters :)
munk25 Says:
Nov 6, 2009 - Well if thays true then Rickosn would have fought guys like Bas and Ruas
romanazazel Says:
Nov 7, 2009 - It is true, do your own research if you like. Anyway I'm outta here, ciao.
munk25 Says:
Nov 8, 2009 - LOL you are one of those stupid guys that thinks that Rickson ( today) is ablel to beat Fedor ha ha ha
muddychucks Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - LOL you are one of those stupid guys that thinks that he can predicts fights. If you have learned anything from watching MMA you know its unpredictable. Anyone can get caught slipping.
munk25 Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - man you more stupid than my dog you know what your right and i get my peace, and one last thing, Rickson aint the best.......
sk8pirata Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - My favorite member of Gracies, Rickson
beautifulwarriorwomn Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - Nice demo. Definatly gives a feel for the style. I studied under a Gracie. It is one of my more favorite styles. You still have to be careful though because I saw plenty of openings for a street fighter to cause some real damage.
