Oct 2, 2009 - I remember this commerical use to air when I was a kid back in the 90's. I always loved it, and got so exicted when it came on. I always found retro stuff neat. I remember seeing this commerical one time before my Mom drove me to school. I also remember another time my Mom was amazed that the commerical was still coming on the air, and she remembered seeing it herself when she was younger. :-) Memories. I truly love them. *sigh* :-)

Oct 7, 2009 - Maybe if people made commericals like this the world would be a better place.

Oct 8, 2009 - I saw this commercial when I was in college. We were busy streaking back then but now I work in environmental affairs. How ironic!
champeens Says:
Oct 12, 2009 - This is powerful. We need this kind of imagery today today to help breakthrough the medias grasp of the public's attention. We need to get serious........
GJNCA Says:
Oct 16, 2009 - I grew up watching this commercial back in the early 1970's--- it made me very aware of the evils of littering (I began picking up wrappers and other pieces of trash in my neighborhood after school). Great public service ad!!!

Oct 18, 2009 - Song: Overture (As Though It Were A Movie) by Peter Sarstedt
eyeinidas Says:
Oct 20, 2009 - I remember this. It made a huge difference.
rajandharni Says:
Oct 26, 2009 - this commercial was undoubtedly powerful back in the day, but, honestly, if something similar aired today, it wouldn't do a thing but make people laugh. much more difficult to effectively communicate nowadays..
Kinemacolour Says:
Oct 28, 2009 - I remember this even though I was a toddler in the 70's.
freakshowmonkey Says:
Nov 4, 2009 - Mr. Espera Oscar DeCorti, later "Iron Eyes" Cody, the Italian Native American. 1907-1999

EyeLean5280 Says:
Nov 8, 2009 - Yes. As Werner Herzog put it, as a society, we today lack adequate images.

Nov 13, 2009 - i memba this one.. very powerful.. you never forget it
ankharris Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - Fascinating fact; Iron Eyes Cody, the actor in the commercial, made a living his whole life playing American Indians in movies and TV, but was really the child of Italian immigrants. He was always a big promoter of Indian culture and causes and was lovingly embraced by the American Indian community.
caligirl2191 Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - this may be a little cheesy but it's really sad :( change the music a little and it could work for today. I wish people thought of the world this way more often
2indulgent Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - That's right rajandharni, but lets be very forward about where much of the blame for today's insensitivity lies -- America has been Rush Limbaughed, right wing talk radioed, and Fox Newsed to death. Consequently, many Americans would today ridicule this commercial as being from "environmental wackos," "tax and spend liberals," etc. Nowadays it is considered more important by many Americans to pay very little in taxes than to have government apply pressure to stop environmental degradation.
2indulgent Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - A great pre-Limbaugh, pre-Fox-News commercial that aired to great effect before people with such concerns were labeled "environmental wackos"
Gikaidor Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - Its not difficult, you just have to think of new and better ways.
8laneblacktop Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - The avoidable apocalypse - total disaster with a way out: not littering. For a commercial, or more accurately PSA, this one was sufferable - the industrial image made it tolerable. Good message and still relevant.

Sep 26, 2009 - My dad watched this when he was in seventh grade and he thought it was one of the most powerful commercials he has ever seen
