As for the female babies thing, China has a population problem so the government passed a law to prevent families from having more then one child. It does NOT mean they can only have one child, they'll just have to pay more taxes if they do have more then one. My uncle in China has two kids. It is also traditionally the son who passes on the family name hence the preference for boys over girls.
