TheBritishWatcher Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - theres no evidence 70% of the people want out of the EU, just because an odd opinion poll usually influenced by the biased newspaper media which is anti europe means nothing. If there was a single referendum on in out for the UK, i think you will find the conservative, lib dem, Plaid, SNP and Greens all speaking with one voice saying we must remain in the EU would persuade many to vote to remain part of the union. Only the BNP and UKIP would advocate withdrawing, Nice group to be in.
royjrp12 Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - If that was the case, then the main parties would not be scared to death of letting the British public have their Democratic vote. Its people like you that are more interested in a certain party winning the election than Democracy.
TheBritishWatcher Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - RoyJrp, to hold a single referendum on something with huge implications always worries mainstream parties. We have parliamentary democracy, that is how our country and system works. Separatists are demanding a referendum in Scotland on independence, the only way we can justify not holding on is voting patterns of the Scottish people and opinion polls. You need a clear majority in order to hold a referendum which is designed for radical change. besides a referendum wont stop u hating the EU
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - It doesn't matter what the polls predict. The fact is the British people were promised a Referendum and the result will be respected no matter which way it goes.
TheBritishWatcher Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - The British people were not promised a referendum by David Cameron if Lisbon has already been ratified. Besides it wasnt even an election pledge. the conservatives have not had a general election with that issue as a commitment because theres not been one. We have a choice David cameron or Gordon Brown, its obvious which will take a stronger line on Europe.
royjrp12 Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - I believe the people of Scotland should vote on whether to be independant or part of Britain, and so should Northern Ireland,it is not being extremist, its their right to decide.I personally could not give two hoots if we are In or Out of Europe,I do however believe it is for the People to decide, not the politicians.Just as I do not want Labour to win the next election,I still believe its for the people to decide, its democracy, and that is worth dying for.
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - royjpr12, you are correct the people of Scotland need to decide on independence. The Scottish Assembly can issue a Referendum tomorrow if they want so press them for that
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - The British Watcher, David Cameron did indeed give an unequivocal commitmenr to a Referendum. I will send you the link I quote from the Telegraph today. The article starts off: "The Tory leaders admission, which could come as early as Tuesday, will bring accusations that he has broken clear promises to grant a popular vote on the agreement. Mr Cameron gave an ironclad promise in 2007 that a Conservative government would hold a popular vote on Lisbon. "
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - Our politicians have broken their word time and time again and have proven themselves to be uniformly untrustworthy...they MUST deliver a Referendum to the British people!
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - apparently Lord Mandelson is already crowing in the press about the "ironclad" promsie David Cameron gave to a Referendum saying that his promise is starting to look "rusty"
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - Now we have established on this thread that David Cameron did indeed promise a popular Referendum on Lisbon in 2007 and in May this year and given the fact that both Gordon and Tony Promised a Referendum...where do we go from here??
DoverFerry Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - It is simply not good enough for David Cameron to say on this video Lisbon is part of Law and there is nothing we can do about it. Parliament is still sovereign and can abolish Lisbon with a simple Act of Parliament. no future Govt is bound by retrospective legislation. It never has been and hopefully never will be

Nov 10, 2009 - My 77 year old mum lives in France, my 35 year old sister lives in Italy, my 49 year old brother lives in Spain and stupid me lives in Britain. We have an unelected head of state, an unelected House of Lords, and an electoral system that allows 49% of the population to have NO representative in parliment. Democacy? We are European. Get used to it. It was the TORIES that made us so.

Nov 12, 2009 - Excellent programme on Beeb4 in the last week on the shipyards on the Clyde of Glasgow. Nice to see a balanced summation of all the difficulties in that story. The way I see it is Britain was a mature World civilisation, so we couldn't expect their workers to be on the same living wage as emerging shipyards of Japan and Korea etc.. So some way should have been found to keep it going, in swap of getting the Union system there to be streamlined, allowing introduction of modern manufacturing. .
pritzi101 Says:
Nov 13, 2009 - Suck an egg Cameron, I'd rather not vote than vote conservative.

Nov 13, 2009 - Cameron= Blair, a liar, political opportunist and was a supporter of the Iraq war. Have learnt no matter how gd their personality may seem, if their policies and judgement are disastrous, I won't be voting for them.

Nov 14, 2009 - You tell em William Hague Baguey DB votes Tory! Down with Labour!
coshigould Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - Get out from EU!
jas407 Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - we could have had an election or the treaty might not have been signed by the time the election came around, that's how we could have had a referendum on the treaty. one now can only be on one that no-longer exists, one on doing what the tories already say they are going to do or one on pulling out of the eu. not rocket science.

WHYNOPASSWORD12 Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - Mr Cameron. Could you respond to the findings of the C4 Dispatches programme concerning the pro-Israel lobby and its influence on the Tory party ? It reported that a large majority of Tory MPs and half the shadow cabinet are signed-up Friends of Israel, and millions of pounds flow into the bank accounts of MPs and parties although only a fraction of these contributions is visibly accounted for. We await your response, Mr Cameron.
TheBulldogDrummond Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - You'll have to wait a long time for a repsonse. Haigh can't even answer whether Lord Ashcroft was Non Dom when he bunged the Tories millions in funding. This is agains tthe Law and the Tories need to pay that money back
CrubbDaTubb Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - While listening to you and gollum here I am not sure whether I need first rip off my ears or poke out my eyes. Which should it be?

Nov 9, 2009 - As for David Davis, i like the guy infact if im honest i wanted him to win the conservative leadership. But things have changed, he lost. An election is less than a year away, the tories are ahead in the polls and stand a real chance of winning. ALL conservative supporters and members need to fall into line atleast until after the election. That would include David Davis, who would not dare cause a big stir at the point.
