Oct 6, 2009 - You are, of course, aware that Bon Scott died 29 years ago, whereas Paul Rodgers is still on the go. Only pointing this out because you are referring to him in the present tense. Have to agree with you though inasmuchas Paul Rodgers and Bon Scott are/were outstanding front men but I'd say Rodgers has the edge when it comes to it with a creamy, sustained and overdriven voice, whereas Bon's was more raspy, nasty and fierce but Hell could he (Bon) write some brilliant lyrics.

Oct 6, 2009 - Last comment was meant for EricBoston1992. Another interesting point, well for me anyway, is that Free were also picked up and managed by the same guy that managed Zeppelin; Peter Grant. One more singer you might like, since you like these two (and Bob Plant) is Alex Harvey. Do a search for some "Sensational Alex Harvey Band" (S.A.H.B) stuff. In particular Next, I just wanna make love to you, Swampsnake, GangBang and Boston Tea Party. Totally agree with Fuzzleredmenn jax1moi8 Cheers

Oct 6, 2009 - Free were never managed by Pegter Grant, you are thinking of Bad Company. Not the same thing at all.
JapseyeOgri Says:
Oct 6, 2009 - Oops, sorry, yeah you're right. Although Bad Company, in one of its forms, was Rodgers, Kossoff and Kirke so basically the only thing missing from the line up, that was Free, was Andy Frazer.
EriktheV Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Wrong again, Kossoff only played two nights with 'Bad Company' to showcase All Right Now but was never a member of the band
JapseyeOgri Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Now that's some detailed information. I'll bow out to your guru-esque levels of afficionadory before I shoot myself in the foot again ;-))
3Kmartin Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Man, your description of Rodgers' and Scott's voices is right on the money. Perfect description of their respective styles. Like you, I prefer Rodgers.
EriktheV Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Hope your feet are well... not meant to cause you harm... maybe I could offer a foot rub to make up for my 'criticism' but old guys like myself just get accused of way more than we intend!! I saw Free at college at Lancaster Uni in Britain in 1970 so you should be able to work out the rest... Still, I also saw Paul Rodgers at Hampton Beach in NH in the USA only 6 years ago and his voice, range and strength was as awesome as ever...
JapseyeOgri Says:
Oct 7, 2009 - Hahahh, no worries, man. I'm a decade and change behind you so was brought up with Free on Top o' the pops and the radio during the 70s. They've always held a special place in my musical interests and I probably got a bit over-enthused ;-)) but lacked the actual details.

Nov 6, 2009 - One of the most underrated bands of all time. So loose and so tight all at the same time. Paul Kossoff, a great, forgotten guitar hero. Nobody sounds like him, ever notice that? Paul Rodgers, one of 4 or 5 truly distinctive rock singers. When this band was on, it was unsurpassed. Excellent in every sense of the word.

Sep 29, 2009 - What I always loved about Free was how they kept things simple and straightforward. It's not easy to do well, but they did.
