"freedom for people" are you in chains or something?? for goodness sake..spain enforces no laws on you in which you cannot do a certain thing. In effect, it is the Catalan "government" which enforces laws which give fines if catalan is not spoken. If you want your so called "freedom for people" you ought to be going to the SPANISH government. He ido a Barcelona...me gusto mucho :D

Oct 30, 2009 - but the thing is if you go to any province or region in any part of the world there will be some which will constantly want independance eg Scotland, Galicia, Tibet, Northern Ireland, Gaza, South Ossetia, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Falkland Islands. And then you've got Catalonia! I'm not this kind of weird person who's overly patriotic for Spain. I just don't understand why Catalonia should be any different to the regions i listed above.

Oct 30, 2009 - If every country simply gave in to the wishes of these regions, we would live in a world which would be much more complicated than it is already as there would be more governments which means more laws, more arguments and eventually more wars. It's not as if Spain gives no rights to Catalonia - it gives many rights to the region! It's simply people like 4banderas who have to disrupt the peace that is present in Catalonia at the moment.

Catalonia is a region where people live in armony, respecting each others language choices, at least that is what I saw. You have the right to express yourself in Catalan or Spanish.

Oct 31, 2009 - What I strongly frown upon are those who force their language (spanish) and spanish culture onto others in Catalonia. There's only one country (andorra) and one "region", Catalonia, where I can learn Catalan and its culture. There are many countries where I can easily learn Spanish and their cultures. So why supress Catalonia? Why try to increase the learning hours of Spanish in Catalonia when I would have no interest in the language/culture?
