Nov 2, 2009 - The USA went away from WWI with the belief that they should never again join in another European war. The US had a very strong isolationist movement as the buildup to WWII increased, which is why the US was totally unprepared to help the UK and France against Nazi Germany, and once again it took years to train and equip an army to put into the field.

Nov 2, 2009 - Here's to the men whom provide and preserve the worlds' freedom - these are the most real of men - we would have no democrasy, no country without them.
proszel Says:
Nov 3, 2009 - That should be who, not whom, democracy not democrasy, world's not worlds', and at the end you should've written "without whom we'd have neither country nor democracy"
Ottocariustiger Says:
Nov 6, 2009 - ive been paying attention to the comments all i have to say is america did saved the uk in ww2 dont get me wrong you guys fought very hard in the skies of britain and inthe deserts of el alamein but ulyimatly wesaved you because germany declared war on us!!Japan was foolish to make treaty with germany a country far away from japan although i love the german heer there leader was a fool.

bjornschirmer Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - Actually, neither the Americans nor the English were responsible for victory in the second world war, Russia was. And why are you even fighting over this? None of you have any rational reason to feel any sense of pride over things achieved by... your grandfathers at best, nor should you fight over it, because if things hadn't worked out exactly the way they did, none of us would be born anyway. Now that's something to think about.
Goradok Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - Are you just stupid? AMerica had MANY victories in WW2 asshole. YES Russia had a major part in defeating the germans but do NOT minimize the US role. We supplied Russia with planes inteh beginnings of the war because they did not posess any that could fend off the germans at that time so fuck off asshole! You are obviously not an american or you would have your facts straight!
bjornschirmer Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - I never said I was, although that should give me a much better view on this. Yes, the Americans gave the Russians supplies, trucks and tanks that became known as 'iron coffins,' that is true. However, if Germany had never gone to war with Russia, there would be about 11 million more Germans to fight, meaning the war would have gone on longer and the Germans would eventually nuke you into submission like you did to Japan.
bjornschirmer Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - And you are right to say that the US played a major role, but Britain actually joined in spite of overwhelming odds whereas the US would rather sit it out. That kinda makes Britain the better party in my book. I'm Norwegian by the way. We sucked.
Jononutoob Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - I respect our soldiers for their courage and honor. However I do not feel as if I owe them anything other than my respect. They volunteered to fight, they are getting paid for it. If an enemy is at my door then I will fight but I will not fight in a foreign land. Again I respect any soldier but I will not bow to them and I will not kiss their ass. I am tired of these fake veterans day tributes. Defensive war will give your enemies pause. Offensive war will give your enemies a reason.
bmwmcaw Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - What a self serving post. Its clear you have no respect for the Military irrespective of claim. To you military serves are for fools who don't game the system. Forget all the other generations that have given everything for those they would never meet, like you, and those today that carry that tradition of serves to something greater than themselves. You will always live a life without honor. You don't need to go to war to find death, you'll already dead.
Jononutoob Says:
Nov 13, 2009 - You are entitled to your opinion as am I. We as Americans assume we can interfere in others lives. This has been the cause of much death. I ask you to look at our nations actions from a neutral view. Dont blindly assume that we are on the good side. We gave Iraq the weapons that are killing our soldiers, we gave Osama Bin Laden the training he teaches to others. Our acts of war only cause more war. The United States has made its bed, now it is time for us to sleep in it. Have a nice day.

Nov 13, 2009 - This is one of the strongest and best acted roles that Jack Nicholson ever played. I love the square head/jawed Marine look. Jack is really the marine's MARINE soldier here. I love his strong delivery here. It is compelling, shocking, and really sets you back on your seat. This scene is defintely THE highlight of this movie!
merlin3251201 Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - russia responsible for the victory in ww2? i hope your joking lol. russia had more deaths than every ally country and germany put together, ur army was HUGE but so badly equipped it was untrue. Hitler made it all the way to Stalingrad - if it wasnt for D-Day russia would have fallen. Russia was looking on the eastern front. go read Stalins speeches at conferences such as yalta or teheran - he even says himself russia will loose if D day doesnt happen soon.
bjornschirmer Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - Actually, Russia's industry was much more war-oriented than Germany, and by 1944, they were producing about 4 or 5 times as much, if not more. It is true that Russia would be in deep trouble if she didn't have allies, but I think they would have a much better chance than USA, who by the way would never have joined if not for Japan. And again, I'm Norwegian. READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE ANSWERING please. One more thing: check out a map of Russia. See how much further Germany would have to go.
gdw36 Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - Merlin, you need to do some non-biased study of WWII. The D-say landings were, and are still in some countries, hailed as the largest invasion of all time - some 200,000 men total, about 120,000 landed. Meanwhile, the 3,000,000 men Hitler had sent to the Eastern front had been back peddling against Russia since the SPring of 1943. If it weren't for the Eastern front, i.e. Russia, D-day would have been a complete failure.
peacemaker185 Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - Jack Nicholson best ever. Soldiers follow orders and would do whatever requires them to protect thier country and honor..its the politicians and civilians who stab them from behind for their greed..
SoloAxe Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - I hope YOU'RE joking, if you're saying d-day would have been successful with out what has happening to the Germans is Russia

cptnbennett Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - The Battle of Stalingrad was the most important battle of WW2. Any historian will confirm that. The Russians wiped out Hitlers entire Eastern Front. There's no point in arguing this though, because neither of us are experts. However, as said above, just ask a historian, or someone else way more qualified that us what the most important battle of WW2 was.

BeefyRalph Says:
Nov 2, 2009 - By November, the lines had been pushed back 50 miles into Belgium. 4.3 million AEF troops entered the combat theater. The USA suffered 320k casualties for a war that UK propaganda had convinced Wilson was a war for democracy, but that illusion was shattered by UK 's and France's Treaty of Versailles, a document of raw greed and vengeance that showed Americans what the war was really about, and was primarily responsible for the rise of Nazi Germany.
