Oct 21, 2009 - Thanks for posting. My Mom and Dad's song.... He was a redneck from Tennessee and she a mexican girl, and they met in El Paso. Fortunately all the similarities ended there, but this was their song... I love hearing it.

Oct 30, 2009 - THIS IS SIMPLY A GREAT SONG, BUT HE WAS ILL AND LATER DIED AFTER THE PERFORMANCE. The original song if you catch it, will bring tears to your eyes.

Nov 1, 2009 - IMHO the trumpet should have been left out from this live performance. It detracts from the song instead of enhancing it. Also, the sound engineer should have turned-up the mics on the backing vocals. You can barely hear the harmonies, which were so necessary for this classic, Tex-Mex composition. Marty does a splendid job here. Grady Martin was the lead guitarist in the original recording, and featured classic "licks" that will always be heralded as spectacular. Thanks for posting this.

Nov 1, 2009 - Actually, TerraFirma, I like the trumpet - ties it firmly to the mariachi music tradition, which, as a waltz and with the tune, it clearly is (loved this song in the '60's - still do)

Nov 15, 2009 - Re: Trumpet and music. If you haven't already, listen to this song with Jerry Garcia's guitar weaving through it. You can't top playing with real feeling and virtuosity. Look for the Grateful Dead circa 1972.

Nov 15, 2009 - Now thats a perfomance. Way to work the crowd Marty. RIP

Nov 19, 2009 - Love the Dead's 1972 cover. Check out the youtube video of Merle Hagard imitating Marty in front of Marty. You can tell that they were great friends.
