Sep 11, 2009 - There are many of us that would like to see Stephen Fry continue to ridicule his own kind in the way he does best...with good humour, love and respect. I'd love to see his take on current international politics, values and culture because he'd do it so well. Somehow I can't see that happening! The feeling I always get when I watch him is that , yes, everything is ridiculous...but somehow , necessary and comforting, We are, after all, intellect not flesh and blood!

Sep 21, 2009 - Language is my father, my mother, my brother, my sister, my whore, my mistress, my checkout girl. Language is a moist lemon-scented pie, language is the breath of god, language is a do you want a fresh apple ? Its the soft rain of dust that falls in the shaft of a morning light that you pluck from an old book shop, a half-erotic book of old memoirs,

Sep 21, 2009 - language is a creek on a stair, its a spluttering match on a frosted pane, its a half-amended child at a birthday party, its the warm wet trusting touch of a leaking napkin, the hulk of a charred panzer, the underside of a granite boulder, the first downy growth on the upper lip of a mediterranean girl, its cobwebs long since overrun by an old wellington boot.

Oct 1, 2009 - omg I am sure there is a point, but i'm not that bright... What is he saying except the speech-language, chess games-chess thing plz?
Jordarnm Says:
Oct 3, 2009 - He's saying that it's remarkable that people spout the same stock phrases ("I love you, don't go in there, get out, you have no right to say that, stop it, why should I, that hurt, help, Marjorie is dead") despite the fact that there are "hundreds of thousands of available words, frillions of legitimate ideas" which allow a near-infinite variety of thoughts and sentiments to be expressed. Basically, he's saying (perhaps in self-parody) that small talk is a waste of time.

Oct 6, 2009 - You are using language and not making any sense at all. Language doesn't really exist without meaning. So, what are you really doing with the words you posted? Maybe just noise?
Faisal4242 Says:
Oct 6, 2009 - I was wondering what to stay to match your brilliant remark. I mean the fashion in which you destroyed my feat was remarkable. Only I found myself contemplating a way to defeat your statement. You will note that you, sir, are the only one making noise. I was simply breath-taken by Stephen Fry's monologue that begins at 3:07 and decided to re-write it. In these forums of freedom of expression, if you decide to post; try thinking before you type, its usually useful. Have a great day.

Oct 14, 2009 - don't you feel like you wasted your time writing that?

Oct 29, 2009 - It really aggregates me when people say, "you, sir" with faux grace. People only say such things on forums such as this. It's the preoccupation of people who need to step away from a computer...oh shit! However, you redeemed yourself with your next comment.

Oct 30, 2009 - Depending on the small talk - I remember a particularly interesting and enlightening situation where I was talking to two guys about painting the wall whilst holding a potato (the other guy was Irish) and I would classify that as small talk as we were essentially talking to fill the time. However, the unconventionality of the topics, I think, lead to it not being a waste of time but something transcending the limits of everyday speech.
