Dec 3, 2008 - I think the point of the movie is that women in the 50s didn't have a choice about whether they stayed home or not--it was just expected that they would be housewives. Nowadays, women DO have the choice, and yes, some may work out of necessity, but no one is forcing them to have kids and stay at home now. Times have changed, even if some people haven't. This movie is a perfect example of society's ideal women in the 50s, so for its honesty and insight, it should be praised, not frowned upon.

I understand that you are only 21 and from Australia. May be things are different there. Here a lot of women can't stay home, because one income is not enough. Dec 4, 2008 - I don't think things differ all that greatly between australia and the U.S., and I don't see my age as having anything to do with my opinions. I understand that women canNOT always stay home with children because they need to work--my point is simply that in the 50s, they didn't have a choice; they were MADE to stay home and not work. Now, there is no pressure to have kids, but if you have them and don't have the money to stay home, society accepts that you may need to find a job.

Dec 28, 2008 - Hi, there r 21 yr old working mums around so I don't think 21 is very young when it comes to this. We also get 50s movies on tv as u do know that many of our grand mothers didn't work etc it's difficult to find a woman who will stay at home here for the same reason u mentioned. P S our trends r almost identical eg 50% divorce here, obecity etc Australia practically copys America when it comes to trends and laws eg discrimination etc and our obese and divorce rate is almost identical etc
