Nov 28, 2008 - Sly's best work in my opinion started with Riot and all the way to Ain't But the One Way. The problem is the American media and how they brain-washed the public into accepting his early stuff. The American media machine spoke out against his later music. I am a musician and I know his later stuff was superior. He was punished because in the seventies, he had come home, and started writing for his people instead of those people. And he was punished for that. Kirk Out!!!

Dec 16, 2008 - Im suprized still that this and the next album were so slagged by critics, I do believe they were almost trying to make sly fail.Honestly this really good, by todays standards its good too.Sucks because maybe if he'd gotten a better shake slaes and critcally, he would have kept these killer tracks comin instead of dropping out. Too much pressure. He must have been thinking" what the hell do they want?" Its good structure and great sound.

Dec 24, 2008 - Conspiracy or not, his last two albums were very patchy indeed.I am also a musician and fan, and bought Aint But the One Way when it came out.I heard a coke-ravaged, spent force, apart from on maybe two songs. The version of You Really Got Me is particularly bad...

Dec 24, 2008 - Bravo to you. Someone who knows good music. The seventies Sly was more sophisticated than his sixties work. So I could not agree with you more. He was on the right track musically but he had no support and it's unfair.

Feb 10, 2009 - Man. You said it. I agree totally...High On You and Heard Ya Missed Me are both great records...geez, the least they could do is give them a good remastering, like they did with the rest of Sly's Epic stuff. It's sad that good records like this are out of print. I mean, I know that Sly wasn't in the best place mentally at the time, but it sure didn't help that nobody was willing to give him a fair shake. I don't blame him for dropping out for so long, but man I sure missed him. Glad he's back!

Apr 22, 2009 - I think they were trying to make him fail too. His reputation by that time was so bad -for not showing up at concerts due to either his issues or management issues - plus he was stoned quite a lot; but the white elite in the rock business was pushing him out as fast as they could. He was just too good.

Apr 22, 2009 - I agree - I bugged CKUAFM in Alberta to start playing his music, his OTHER music, and I think they've responded, at least he is getting some airplay; it's fantastic music, and it's a shame that it hasn't been aired more than it has.

Apr 26, 2009 - Ahhhhhhhh HELL YEAH!!! One of the best bass runs in music! I LOVE Sylvester Stewart AKA SLY STONE!!!

May 11, 2009 - I don't know if the public was "brainwashed". Sly and the Family Stone's '70s stuff was underrated, but the Family Stone band (although still good) was not as good after Larry Graham and Gregg Errico left. Larry influenced other bass players and Gregg's drum beats influenced rap music.
joerobot32 Says:
May 12, 2009 - thats true, but bobby vega can really hold his own in the bass department, they didnt need another larry graham, and sly himself played some of the bass tracks while larry was in the band.

Jun 3, 2009 - Same Track for Temptations song...Up A Creek..without a paddle...Sly was ghost producer a well...

Jul 14, 2009 - I listen to the 'Back in the right track' and ' I heard you missed me...' a lot as well as 'Small talk' and ' Fresh ' and his other 70's stuff I'd say the ' Ain't but the...' album does lack a little creativity

Nov 21, 2009 - Exactly. In fact, Sly played the bass on "In Time", which is straight up killin'. Will Lee told us that he (Sly) played it for him, during the shooting of a Letterman show with Sly on it. And trust me, Will Lee wouldn't lie about something like that. Anyway, yeah Bobby V is a monster. He's got an incredible "thumb-as-a-pick" technique. His phrasing is up there with Marcus, to me :-)
