Oct 12, 2009 - Whoops, guess it was 4 people. Still should be well within the limits for MTOW.

FSX404 Says:

Oct 12, 2009 - I think one of the CFI's from Cameron Park noted that the NTSB said the plane was 3% above it's weight limit. If you take the density altitude into account and the tail wind gusts, you could see how this could easily happen, but regardless. I assumed that the pilot had done that run many times, unfortunatelly when you are close to the edge of the flight envelope, it only takes one thing to go wrong, especially at a low altitude. Looks like there were too many things combined that did it.

Oct 13, 2009 - @ 0:41 you can see NO FLAPS...short field tako off with no flaps. He is most likely also trying to climb out at Vx when he realized he wasn't doing so well then jerks the plane back to a stall...like another commentator said, high performance plane, low performance pilot.

schaumpilot Says:

Oct 13, 2009 - :( correct, no flaps ! heavy mistake !

Oct 16, 2009 - 1:00 world's most melodramatic OH NO.

zadeh79 Says:

Oct 17, 2009 - Yeah, but if he was taking off into a descent wind, Vr would have been less, right? Maybe, wind shear was responsible.

danzeyboy Says:

Oct 18, 2009 - Well spotted -LOL

mylife1221 Says:

Oct 19, 2009 - The plane is a Beechcraft Baron. I don't know what number it is.

pilothoon Says:

Oct 19, 2009 - Nope. It's a Bonanza. The Baron is a twin. :-)

adslparts Says:

Oct 20, 2009 - The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows: The airplane's sudden encounter with a wind shift during the initial takeoff climb that resulted in degraded climb performance and a stall mush condition. Contributing to the accident was the airplane's over gross weight condition, high density altitude, the pilot's inability to compensate for the sudden wind shift, and rising terrain in the departure path.

aviator9190 Says:

Oct 21, 2009 - thats why you dont take off down wind

futureAlist Says:

Oct 26, 2009 - maybe its that huge hill on the departure end of the runway?

deathleader52 Says:

Oct 26, 2009 - it's kind of sad that this is the only video of the Cameron Park airport.

darkeyce02 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - i think so too...what would make someone do that lol

RobertGary1 Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - The NTSB's examination of the video concluded that the aircraft had a headwind at the begining of the runway. Its common for the winds to be different at each end of the runway because we're in a bit of a bowl. -Robert, CFII Cameron Park

girlslaw17 Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - sad.

Nov 14, 2009 - Is this a Beechcraft Bonanza or a Beechcraft Baron?

stimpymedic Says:

Nov 14, 2009 - that was a bonanza A36 if i'm not mistaken. The baron is a twin.

Chrissetheripper Says:
