Dec 27, 2008 - This is such an amazing piece of drama. It's one of the few plays that seems to translate well from the stage. And the novel is bloody brilliant to!

Jan 18, 2009 - IS Miss Brodie supposed to be a good teacher or bad? She's unique and creative, but she likes fascism and she insults the administration in front of her students. I haven't seen the movie, just read the synopsis, so I'm confused.

Jan 29, 2009 - Everyone has different views on whether she is good or bad. Although she looks up to Dictators such as Mussolini, it is shown that she has a positive effect on the girls lives as her teaching allows them to think freely.

Feb 13, 2009 - In a scene, a film, full of astringent wit, the quarter hours and late/early lines are classics. I believe the scenes between M. Smith and C.Johnson are so memorable because they are great actresses of prodigious, comparable skills with like imaginations and humor. They have similar vocal gifts and physical appearance once the age difference is factored. Their casting as adversaries has a compelling irony. In key ways, these characters are mirror images of one another but don't know it.

Feb 19, 2009 - Yes! Without Maggie Smith and Celia Johnson the film would be less compelling.

Aug 19, 2009 - I completely agree, and she possessed just a wee too much arrogance for her and 'her' girls own good. Ultimately, fatally influential too, of course. Wonderful acting! Those 'dueling' scenes between the superb Maggie Smith and Celia Johnson were just unforgettable. Great dialogue! I first saw the film at about 14, and probably have seen it 4 or 5times since, and I STILL find Maggie Smith very sexy in this! The hair, and those big sleepy eyes! Wow! Thanks lochness11.
