ChaplainDMK Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - Yea he did write the lyrics, he told Novoselic i think that the music comes first and the lyrics should just fit in with the rythm. But he wrote the lyrics... He hated the song cuz its what made Nirvana popular, he hated that, thats why he killed himself...

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - he didn't write the lyrics . He spent years striving to make it as a rock star, but he hated the fact that the 2 songs that he lied about writing were what made him famous, and it may be one reason that he killed himself, or he may have been shot, not sure, but I AM sure he did not write the lyrics.

Camrox71395 Says:

Nov 14, 2009 - Who gives a face who wrote it? It's grea music, and we should just enjoy. Geez-lousie-poppa-cheese

Pumpkingilmour Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - I am interested in who wrote it, but you are right that it doesn't matter that much if Cobain did not write the lyrics. Maybe that is why he hated the song so much, but he did write the lyrics. He didn't write Love Buzz either, which a lot of people didn't know, so what is the big deal here?

Pumpkingilmour Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - I mean maybe he hated the song so much because he didn't write the lyrics , but he did write the music, and felt shitty that this one song was getting all the attention, plus the mulatto part maybe pissed him off too.

MJsCuteDirtyDiana Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - R.I.P. Kurt

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 16, 2009 - a lot of people seem to care. Some want to see Cobain as the writer of this, and they get very upset when it is shown that he did not write it. Others get upset because the guy that wrote it says that it has a completely different meaning than they thought it did. Nirvana had only two really big hits, and Cobain did not write either of them, so some fans are upset because they have built him up into this big literary genius figure, and it turned out to be bullshit.

nseraaj Says:

Nov 16, 2009 - The best parts of this song are not the lyrics. It's the play on the quiet loud, and the subtle tempo changes. The music is much more prevalent in this song, as most people don't even know what the he's saying in this song anyway. I think the problem is that people are just not interested in you desecrating this man. He's dead. Let his art speak for itself. You seem to have this vendetta like its your job to discredit Kurt Cobain. That's what nobody cares about or wants to hear.

Pumpkingilmour Says:

Nov 16, 2009 - Speak for yourself. I care, and I would remain a fan of Cobain whether he wrote this song or not.If he didn't write it,its not a vendetta to come out and say it .

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 16, 2009 - I agree that to most people, the lyrics were hard to hear and understand, maybe unimortant) but to the people who mattered (criticspeersfellow writers) the lyrics were VERY important. If this song had been just screaming about devil worship like "here we are now, rockin' satan' or some other idiot crap, it would have gone fucking nowhere. Wake up.

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 16, 2009 - so are you saying that even if the lyrics were just 'There you are now, rock me bayba' or something equally fucking clueless, it wouldn't have made a difference? Everyone would have loved it anyway because its so fast and goes quiet to loud etc. because of Kurts hair? The critics would have eaten Nirvana alive.Few writers in the country would have respected it enough to listen to it to the end before shutting it off.Lyrics are VERY fucking important

IrIsHpUnKScOoL Says:

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - he did not write the lyrics to this or to Come As You Are.

lamecow21 Says:

OzKnosis Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - to know the full story and the true meaning of the song, look up: The true story behind the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Read the entire thread. You will then understand what happened and understand the full meaning of the lyrics.
