Go read Michaels autobiography Moonwalk and you'll understand they both shared a compasionate relationship with one another. Michael is proud of his father and even though he had a hard upbringing he was greatful for it payed off. He also states that he's lucky to have a father who doesnt claim his childrens money so this is all BS and not all the facts have been shared.

If Sears and the local malt shop would have hired 5 year olds then Joe would have had his children working there too. I am not impressed because he did not do it for his kids he did it for himself. Joe's doing was having his sons play strip bars and night clubs before they were old enough to go in by themselves. Not to mention the beatins and verbal abuse...yeah, hard to credit Joe with much of anything knowing he was a crap father.

It was Katherine who convinced Joe to listen to the boys who had been fooling around with Joe's guitar and other instruments while he was at work. I think Tito broke the guitar string and Joe found out. He was angry but Katherine calmed him down saying that the boys were really talented. He listened and liked what he heard. Katherine heard Michael harmonizing at age 5 while helping her around the house. She convinced Joe to listen, the rest is history.

Nov 25, 2009 - Just trying to say, Joe is credited with a lot of the J5 success, but if it weren't for Katherine recognizing talent and pressuring Joe to take a chance on them, there might not have been a J5. And as for Michael, he surpassed his brothers because he understood what it took to succeed... study the greats and practice. Joe instilled in the boys to go where the money is. All but MJ lost his hunger to learn and be great. That is why MJ succeeded and the others fell on hard times, including Joe.

If you say it is because of Joe that Michael is a superstar today, then by association you must also say because of Joe, the others are failures. They were cut from the same cloth. MJ broke from his family and built his own legacy. The influences of his father were long gone. His success was due to his perseverance. But he did repay his debt to his dad a million times over, so Joe shouldn't be credited for what MJ gained later.
