You are right, we are the righteousness of God, but when Phil says, "I'm so unworthy, but still you love me...", he is talking about Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.". While we were unworthy, filthy, deserving punishment, God chose to give us his son Jesus, so that he might die for sins and bring us salvation. The ultimate demonstration of God's love.
