Nov 4, 2009 - Granted it was a good movie for Hollywood, but there is one major flaw: It only talks about racism as a preconceived notion. It does not include how racism derives from the exploitation of the working class, which is a HUGE part in history. Ex: The Transatlantic Trade.

Nov 7, 2009 - Excellent point! Hollywood loves the easy answers.
DerSheinerSailor Says:
Nov 13, 2009 - @CuriousGeorge53142, Indeed, that is a really good point. But, I don't think "Crash" wanted us to know WHY we have these deeper emotions of fear for each other, based on rascism. I think it only reminds us that we somehow DO feel them, in particular out of fear, in which we don't intend to show. Then again, Crash doesn't need to show why we fear, it just shows it. Next time you see someone with a different skin colour than yours, would you ever think about what happend 200 years ago?
CuriousGeorge53142 Says:
Nov 13, 2009 - @DerSheinerSailor, Granted that Hollywood did not want to "teach" history since it will bore the audience, nevertheless, Hollywood assumes that the audience are not intellectual. Without a critical remark on the movie, such as the one I made, it would do no justice. Plus, depending on who you ask, they might think about the history. For example, African Americans are more likely to perceive that racism (overt and cover) still exist in America. Whites on the other believe it is a personal problem
DerSheinerSailor Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - @CuriousGeorge53142 Absolutely! I do agree that Hollywood is too transparent when they try to neglect certain values that should have been remarked upon. (As you mention, they presume that their audience are idiots, thinking that what they see is what they see, having no aesthetic thoughts about it. For example; what is our fears based on the construction of society? How do you relate different ethnic groups based on stereotypes? What does history tell us based on our fathers? Again, good point.

Nov 23, 2009 - On every oscar video i've seen of this winning best picture people are outraged. I think Crash deserved best picture. It's point was not to state the obvious, and say that racism exists. It's point was to show that we are all more equal than we think. We all have prejudice lying within us somewhere. Crash had something Brokeback mt. didn't have, subtle lessons and points that you need to catch for yourself. The reason people were so outraged, is that they were to blind to see the subtlety.

Nov 24, 2009 - this movie would have been good. but it ripped off Traffic. now of course fans are gonna be mad cause i said this. but its true. the way all lives intersect through the movie, and even dropping the person in front of the emergency room. Crash was good, but it stole so much from Traffic
