Nov 17, 2009 - High school budgets are state and national mandates on what must be purchased. We have to do dissections in Biology and Anatomy. Frogs, crayfish, worms, starfish, grasshoppers, pigeons, sheep eyes, cow hearts, minks and cats are expensive and are required to be dissected by my particular state. The National government requires that 20% of a high school science class must be in the lab or hands-on learning.Because of this, novelties like liquid nitrogen get passed and cheap alternatives are used

purplemutantas Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - That's unfortunate. Dissecting non human animals is a waste of money and animals.

purplemutantas Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - My dad worked in the semiconductor industry. So sometimes he would bring home a thermos of liquid nitrogen. Not many kids get to play around with liquid nitrogen :D

Zeventwo Says:

gevelegian Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - Why thank you for the info... you see? If someone like mine wouldn't have known that... it could have caused a catastrophe! :) Luckily dried ice isn't available everywhere here.

fireandstuff Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - you make no sense.

wbeaty Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - keep dry ice in a freezer? Dry ice thinks a freezer is hot. Dry ice lasts one or two days in a thick styrofoam box with a thick lid. To preserve dry ice, put it in many layers of styrofoam with aluminum mylar reflector foil beween each layer. Also, small amounts of dry ice have a large surface area, so they won't last long. To make it last, buy a large amount, because then the large volume cannot heat up, while the relatively small surface keeps the interior cold.

woopdedoopdedoo Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - oh mah gowd thats so freakin awesome :O

puerkola Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - u should use gloves you idiot

wbeaty Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - use gloves Dry ice isn't for kids. And kids should always use gloves when handling hot or cold objects (such as hot bread or potatoes from the oven.) Otherwise they'll get hurt, because they don't know the tricks that allow barehanded work.
