Nov 15, 2009 - I know that being down to earth is part of what it's all about for these guys but I still say they need to "own" their greatness a little more. Just like class has nothing to do with income-- a poor person can still be classy-- the singer, bass player, and drummer need to stand up a little taller and not piss away the importance of the position they hold at the show or in the band.
waspy89 Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - Xan McCurdy is the only one that truly seems to take his role seriously. I know some of what I'm talking about is mere carisma and stage-presence which you tend to be born with or not... but the singer seems passive. With a voice like his... he could add a touch of reverb and pour his heart out. Rather, he comes across like he doesn't mean the words he's singing. They could be so much more than they are.
waspy89 Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - Xan obviously takes a lot of his influences from jazz bands. If the bass player or the drummer need any role models, check out some jazz musicians. A jazz drummer has their nose up in the air and has really smooth and tight sweeps and beats. A jazz bass player almost pounces on the next note-- walking along the bass line. And I still say reverb would really give depth to the singer's voice. Emotionally moving yourself is part of good singing and how can you do that without a tiny delay?
sarcasticallyyummy Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - I think he's trying to come off as apathetic, as if he doesn't really mean anything that he's singing...Or you could be right, and he's just not taking it seriously. It's up for interpretation; I think most of this band's image is about apathy, how they could care less about women and what they do. Maybe reading a bit too far into it, but the music's good nonetheless.
