Nov 19, 2009 - Our motivation to destroy has caused us to create. Most of our technology has been adapted from military use in one way or another.
Zelrio28 Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - Your logic is entirely flawed.
gigasloth Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - He's pulling the strings like a marionette
TomWDemarco Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - I'm just saying that our tendencies towards destruction have allowed us to advance. Without it we would be thousands of years behind where we are now.
Zelrio28 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - You're right... Robert Comport, Gregor Mendel, Sir Christopher Wren, Isaac Newton, Rogerius Salernitanus, William Harvey, Edward Jenner, Louis Pasteur, Sewall Wright, Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss, Georg Cantor, and many more whose names I can't even begin to fit in this one comment box are all examples of scientists and mathematicians who made discoveries because "THEY WANTED 2 DSTRY THE WORLD"

COCFAN1985 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - just because one uses technology doesn't make them a hypocrite. That's the first resort stock accusation in this topic, I pray you, go deeper..... When coupled with wisdom, knowledge has the capacity for greatness
KingOfBBQ Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - IT'S EVOLUTION, BABY!
TomWDemarco Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - There's the creation of the jet engine, computers, nuclear energy, the television, metal ships, space programs, radar/sonar, advancements in metalworking; all of which are technologies that repurposed from military use to be used by civilians. look this is dragging out, can we just end the bickering?
Zelrio28 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - Yes, but the original poster who I replied to claimed that humans are *only* capable of destruction. There's absolutely nothing wrong with technology developed by the military but that's a debate for another time.

Nov 20, 2009 - I can kill 'cus "In God I Trust"
Joonas27 Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - The best videoclip ever!
Rysuko Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - I would question that. I don't think humanity's destructive tendencies are the sole reason behind our technological developments. We use our creativity to achieve our goals and our goals so happened to be driven by our own insanity to destroy each other. On the contrary, you could even say war and "politics" has slowed down progress. Hindered the international scientific communities from cooperating. If scientists didn't cater to the government and military, they'd likely lose all their funding.
carcaroth Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - Carl Sagan, Charles Darwin, Charles Peirce, Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, Arthur Clarke... All destroyers of the world.
Zelrio28 Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - @carcaroth Perhaps you should read my latest response, and what the hell is this @carcaroth crap? Google is turning Youtube into twitter now...
TomWDemarco Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - I'm not about to say that the drive towards destruction is the sole cause, but it is a principal motivation. The fear of being destroyed by rivals has cause us to be has caused us to try to find an edge over our opponents. If you look at what is necessary to fight a war it is logistics (strong agriculture and industry), organization (effective government), and a technological advantage, naturally we would want to improve upon these things in a situation of survival and destruction.
prede89 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Yes religion is used as an escuse to do terrible things. Yes it should be criticed, and yes people should REALLY pay attention to it and think about it critically. But even without religion mankind would still be just as evil, would still do all the terrible things, only now they would blaim something else.
prede89 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Oh if the people actually followed their religion (which useally makes a point to say somewhere KILLING IS WRONG) then there wouldn't be any wars. These people don't follow their religions very well. So I don't see why religoin should always be blamed. It's more like people are to blame, and they seem to be hypocrites as it is. People who don't follow the relgion, just say they do (ie people who kill others and say it's for religion) shouldn't represent the entire religion.
prede89 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Also no relgion ever put a gun to someones head and forced them to go and kill. At the end of the day these people usually had free will, yet the choice to go hurt or kill people, no matter what their justification. It was their choice. Thus I find human beings themselves to be the problem, not religion or patriotism or anything like that.
Phelan666 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - You over estimate people's ability to choose. Most of what we do is dictated by how we are raised and what our society is. Free will is an illusion. It is all chemical responses.
roberto8ag Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - @carcaroth "... All destroyers of the world." Leo Tolstoy, Mohandas Gandhi, Francis of Assisi, Jesus of Nazareth (Myth or not), Martin Luther King, Jr.... All destroyers of the world.
Shades90 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - This is by far the greatest music video of all time. The meaning behind the song is remarkably powerful, but the presentation through the images is mind blowing. It boosts the music and lyrics to a fully engrossing experience. Animated music videos tend to focus on the meaning of the song more. They become part of the art as opposed to live action which often just goes along with song. Damn, this is is incredible.
CapitalistOverlord Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Yup. Goodness forbid we humans use our brains and learn about the universe instead of make up stories about it.
