Aug 5, 2009 - @mrforstermath: Could you give me an example where we break the left to right order and get a different answer?
Jubears10 Says:
Aug 5, 2009 - ahhhahah tru
amilportcredit Says:
Aug 25, 2009 - You are right. It must be BEDMAS or PEDMAS but PEMDAS is wrong! See below the expression 6 / 2 x 4
alankarmisra Says:
Aug 26, 2009 - I was under the same impression, until I read up wikipedia! It says that Multiplication and Division have the same precedence in which case they should be applied left-to-right. So PEMDAS and PEDMAS are both right, so long as multiplication and division are applied left to right (mrforstermath also suggested the same). In case of your example, left to right works :)

Aug 26, 2009 - What about 75 divided by 3 times 15 ? you said it wouldn't matter what you do first.
crumcon Says:
Aug 28, 2009 - you are the best math teacher i´ve ever seen in my life. Young math teachers are usually arrogant and the senior or old math teachers want to rush things
esquimalt1 Says:
Sep 10, 2009 - How about: 36 - 3 (4.2 - 0.2)
Wafflesmart Says:
Sep 14, 2009 - the answer is 24
Wafflesmart Says:
Sep 14, 2009 - what is BEDMAS? Please, tell me
Wafflesmart Says:
Sep 14, 2009 - Oh. So BEDMAS is the same as PEDMAS just BEDMAS is worded differently. They still = the same thing. I prefer PEMDAS
SlashBlastMichael Says:
Sep 14, 2009 - bettert than my real teacher
alankarmisra Says:
Sep 14, 2009 - Right you are Wafflesmart! BEDMAS and PEDMAS are one and the same and yes we all have our preferences (I prefer BEDMAS cause thats what I learnt in school)

Sep 28, 2009 - Thank u so much, my 6th grader watched and understood your video and is now doing his homework. you do a great job of explaining it even for me with not much math skills.
amaam89 Says:
Oct 3, 2009 - Too bad know one taught you how to spell "bored" during 5th grade or since then, apparently. Too bad you haven't since developed the phonics skills to know that even if "board" is phonetically correct, "boarning" makes no sense in any context.
chilledmf Says:
Oct 6, 2009 - awesome thank you so much you really know how to explain yourself
Davincy2312 Says:
Oct 8, 2009 - ? It's PEMDAS
Wafflesmart Says:
Oct 8, 2009 - Well that's what I learned in school. But recently I found out that you can use BEMDAS too! Brackets Exponents Multiplication Division Addision Subtraction
imdabomliketictock Says:
Oct 8, 2009 - your wrng you must do the multiplcation or divison or addition or subtraction from left to right not in any other way because you will get a different answer
gaz954 Says:
Oct 28, 2009 - in doing the div and multi backward you get the same answer. from right to left: 7/2 = 3.5 3 * 3.5 = 10.5 2 * 10.5 = 21 which is the same as the 21 he came to doing it left to right.
sk8tterpriincessss Says:
Nov 2, 2009 - no he isnt wrong, he has to go :Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply/ Divide from left to right, Add/Subtract from left to right. Havent you every heard of PEMDAS?
Vermontist Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - And you, yourself, spelled "know" wrong!
amaam89 Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - I did not spell "know" wrong. I used the incorrect word out of a temporary habit. I have a thing for puns and had been playing a punning game on a message board so I just did it without thinking. But know is a homonym for no. Neither is misspelled, just the wrong word for that instance.
supaballad Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - THX!! It was great! I took notes.

alankarmisra Says:
Aug 5, 2009 - Finally someone else who knows BEDMAS. I kept seeing PEMDAS in the comments in the first video and kept wondering - what world am I living in where I seem to be the only one who learnt BEDMAS!!!
