Oct 17, 2009 - This plane is property of Germany!
throwmeaname Says:
Oct 17, 2009 - wow the germans are really advanced in all this warfare technology. first, they built the very first cruise missle, and then this. i'm amazed, truly, but too bad hitler screwed them over.
PissedDwarf7 Says:
Oct 19, 2009 - This program is one seriously oversimplified joke... Even assuming the 229 could have been mass-produced; what good would it have been that late in the war? (or even the "few months earlier" these dip shits proclaim)-even as a 'blitzer' like the AR234, it could carry only 1000KG of ordinance-with a pair of MK108's for the interceptor role.. Though I am patriotic to the Luftwaffe and its brave pilots, even this little bastard wouldn't have been able to down the B32's that were going to hit German

Oct 23, 2009 - The two white swastikas were not on the plane originally btw. They were added by the u.s military when they toured the USA with the 229 and other trophys as part of a country-wide war trophy show in 1945. They propably thought it would look more dramatic this way.

Oct 27, 2009 - Go-229 IS ONE HELLUVA AIRPLANE. WHO CARES IF ITS STEALTH. TOO BAD HITLER WAS NOT PUTTING ENOUGH EFFORT INTO AIRPOWER!

Nov 1, 2009 - The third reich contributed to the world many things, including but not limited to, the innovations of nuclear weapon, jet plane, rocket to space. Even we can infer that all of modern technology of United of States are derivative from the third reich technology which domained by American world war 2 troops.

Nov 3, 2009 - I have the feeling that the stealth capability was a fluke. remember that the materials were difficult to obtain. Wood? widely available. Also other jets were made of wood, like the He 162, Ba 349 among others. The Ho 229 is an impressive aircraft. If it could have changed the outcome of the war? who knows. I wonder if after a few flights under high stress and a couple of bullets on the wings the wooden wings would have broken in mid air.

Nov 4, 2009 - I agree! on wikipedia, i saw that all remaining examples are in the states. so unfair

solverh Says:
Nov 8, 2009 - Actually a well build wooden aircraft can take more battle damage then a metallic one, (Hawker Hurricane is an excellent case in point). The fact that they laminated the skin in many so layers suggest that the battle damage endurance would have been spectacular. Furthermore the wooden skin and everything else was fastened too a strong steel tubular structure. The big question of the GO-229 battle worthiness was the reliability of the plane's control surfaces, mainly the rudder substitute.

Nov 12, 2009 - The nazis won this war they just changed the clothes or do you think intelligent people would give those ideas to enemies?Watch A.Sutton, wallstreet made the Nazis, sponsored financed and knowledge by rockefeller and co, and later they took the evlish seed back to destroy the german culture was the ideologie behind. We are living in a fairy tale of faked news.Their knowledge nowadays is many year more in the future than what they give to us thats the reality.
KongaBongaMulu Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - Rumsfeld said on a question of as world war 2 ended..it is not over in an interview. That means they are preparing to go on with it, just watch Albert Pike he planned all those wars before they happened.Any questions?just write i will answer them.
OPE08 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - You're right, it was a fluke, which any of the Northrop Engineers could have explained if the producers had allowed it. But that wouldn't have made a good video would it?? The HOIX was a prototype, he Go229 production model wouldn't have been wood...
OPE08 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - This show was embarrassing. It was garbage to the point of criminal, and NatGeo should be ashamed for presenting it... The problem is, if you are not a student of the era you'll not understand just how incredibly ridiculous it was. Also, the Grumman model engineers should have known better...
OPE08 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - Hitler didn't screw them over, Hitler WAS "them"...
OPE08 Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - The country that built that plane ceased to exsist in 1945. The Country that currently calls itself Germany has no claim on it
LiebedeineHeimat Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - what you said hurts so much! So we fight, right now! Every single day to get out the 70,000 US GI's out of our country and to get independent!
ALBANOSTI Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - The poduction model - the Go 229 was planned with with wooden wings glued together with fuel resistant glue. with the aluminium tanks it was not able to meet the 1000km requirement. Also the entire wings would have vanished from radar. By the end of the war the production of these wooden wings had allready started at furniture factories in southern germany.
OPE08 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - The production model, like the prototypes, was planned with wood-skinned wings because of the crushing shortages in materials in Germany by that time. The wings would not have "vanished" from radar, the UK's superior radar system would have still picked this plane up. It would have had no airbases close enough for a strike on the UK that would have been useful....
Flintwinch Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - I would like to know what happened to the model that they made for this video. It's an interesting bit of history that should be in museum.

Oct 16, 2009 - I have to agree with markmuzenhardt here. The Hortens developed this all wing concept with one thing in mind: performance. You have to concider that jet engines really was'nt that powerful back then. A aeroplane witch is allmost entirely a wing will not waste drag and weight on tails and elevators and a bulky fuselage. Wood is light, besides it was not a strategical material in wartime Germany.
