Oct 8, 2009 - darkanu89, Well its 'greedy' if you're not a shareholder, isn't it? Next time I go to the supermarket I'm going to walk out without paying because the greedy food corporation wants to make money from the food I need to survive. How evil of them.
darkdanu89 Says:
Oct 8, 2009 - No, you see, what you say of is stealing, because you take their food produced by them, not make an exact copy of it. File sharing is not stealing, its making an exact duplicate of the original thing, with the condition that the original thing was at least 1 time bought by someone (to have the possibility to duplicate from). But the corporations can only stop it by 2 things, lowering down their exagerated prices, or making files that have copy protection, not by abusive laws.
Deddily Says:
Oct 9, 2009 - If you design a revolutionary new way of generating electricity and I see your plans, make an exact copy of them and distribute it, you would most likely say something like: "Hey! He stole my idea!" Stealing doesn't have to be a tangible object, it can be an idea, credit for something or even an electronic file. The whole world system is based on "maximization of profit". Feel free to disagree with the system, but don't pretend it's legal.

Nov 5, 2009 - Actually, your analogy is flawed in "stealing an idea" is just a metaphore - one that is exploited by idiots who can't see that it is a metaphore. An idea is an abstract concept used to create - why do you think copyrights only cover the expression of idea, and patents only cover the method of achieving an idea in of itself and not the idea itself? Because there is a balance that is vital with regards to freedom and control, something we don't have now.
travelsonic Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - "and making copies of it is illegal. T" If for personal use, fair use applies.
travelsonic Says:
Nov 5, 2009 - So saying it isn't a particular crime is the same as you supporting the crime it is? That is illogical if I ever heard it.

Nov 16, 2009 - i understand your point but your logic falls face first because .its there shit they made it. we want it, the company's don't owe us any thing so we have no right over there products . and you sadly mistaking if you believe if multimedia was made more available to the consumer it will end pirating .since the whole point of pirating is to get it for free and pirating doesn't hurt the big corps just your favored musician who only get a cut of the profits
ydyammo Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - A true argument from someone who wants to be spoon-fed through TV. lol... Try to wrap your braincell around this one: - It's NOT about getting shit for free!!! - It IS about the CONSUMER deciding when and what to see and on what platform...! There are hundreds of movies and games that I can't even BUY if I wanted to, because the companies have decided that my region isn't "profitable enough"... For example: Try getting your hands on Manga and un-dubbed Kung-fu movies outside Asia.
Deddily Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - @ydyammo For many people it really is about getting stuff for free. You make a good point though, if it is impossible to get hold of something in your country I can understand your reasons for getting hold of it in an illegal way. But that's just the point - this video argues that it is not against the law, which is not true. Right or wrong, it really is breaking the law. I know a lot of Manga can be bought legitimately, please provide an example of a title you cannot get hold of.
ydyammo Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - It is illegal because there are laws against it. My argument is that those laws is retardant for development. For example: The industrial revolution started 30 years after the steam engine was invented and patented. (I.e when the patent ran out) When WWI started, US airforce was crippled because of endless patent-battles. The government corrected this by claiming the patents for the common good. You see? Copyrighting ideas only blocks progress... it has nothing at all to do with ingenuity.
Deddily Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - @ ydyammo Interesting argument, one I have not heard before! But what progress is laws against music/film/data piracy preventing? What progress can we expect to see if these laws are removed?
ydyammo Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Would a doctor ask what progress a patient would make if he cured him? Here is a thought-example off the top of my head: Imagine that you had a company, which sold a product successfully. Suddenly you come up with a similar but MUCH better product. Would you replace the old, inferior product with the new one, knowing you could just as well patent the new idea and block anyone from using it? Patents are a sickness. (I'm speaking generally... There may of course be exceptions)
ydyammo Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Dang, I need to learn how to read. ;) Your question was about Music, Film, Data. I'm sure I could make a list two miles long, just google this My only _real_ argument is a counter argument: HOW would Warner Brothers know that the email that I sent you, contained a copy of one of their songs and not a video of our last rendezvous? I would rather live in a world without music and movies, than in one where any company could read everything I write to my friends and loved ones.

Oct 8, 2009 - Your illustration with the mail service being accountable for mail fraud falls down, because the mail service is set up as an honest service that is sometimes ABUSED. If I set up a service designed to take instructions from the mafia to contract killers, I am not actually doing the killing, am I? But I am deliberately aiding the crime - that is what TPB is all about, deliberately aiding the crime. If they did the same thing with child pornography, even you would be up in arms about it.
