Nov 21, 2009 - leonard cohen, jeff buckley, john cale, each version is brilliant in it's own way. as long as we can all agree that alexandra burke's version is overprocessed tosh.
wampuswombat Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - Regardless of whose version you like, I think Cohen deserves more credit for his songwriting. The fact that the song has been covered so many times and that each version has so many vocal supporters shows, to me, the strength of the song, regardless of who sings it. And for that we can thank Mr. Cohen.

Nov 21, 2009 - K. D. Lang would have to get my vote on this one. There's a video of her doing it live here on Youtube.

obesecat1 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - and jeff buckley's version is better than bon jovi's. you have to give leonard credit, he made the freaking song.
obesecat1 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - lol I get it. but I do think that jeff buckley made a good cover. because leonard actually made the song for jeff buckley to sing, unlike all the other losers like bon jovi and the other knock-offs.

Nov 25, 2009 - I like all versions at this song because I love this song and all for me are just as good;):) 5*****
Fionnuala1969 Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - LOL.. . Cohen didn't make this song just for Buckley to sing. What's your source for that information?? John Cale did a cover of this song that shot it into the spotlight. Buckley's version was basen on Cale's cover. They aren't even using the original lyrics.... Great song, though, no matter who does it.
pixithemis Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - first heard it on watchmen...its a great song but the movie sucked!

Nov 25, 2009 - I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though It all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah or halle luv u :P
12stel Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - leonard cohen wrote this 1984 , buckley recorded in '94 and actually copied John Cale's arrangement. I can't believe the rabid Buckley fans who over- romaticize everything connected with him just because of his tragic death. Give it a break already, he was a rather mediocre singer, If you like him fine, go to his videos and stop writing this garbage here where the rest of us want to enjoy the genius that is Leonard Cohen
cacciato66 Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - jrtolkien wrote this???
d1sintegration Says:
Nov 26, 2009 - i think cohen's later easy-listening style work is rubbish, and thus can't listen to this version of hallelujah. honestly, i don't see why anyone would prefer this over buckley's acoustic version.

08chenry Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - @08chenry although Cohen wrote it so it doesn't really matter...the song is what's important
