Had he stayed in the Labour Party were he had a vast base of support, over 1 million members voted for his 'Mosley Memorandum' in 1930, he could have easily been PM and could have taken a true 'Third Way' between the Tory indifferance of the 1930s and the Labour state monopolies of the post-war period.

Though one would think they appeared alien the blackshirts were very respectable, not percived as threatening like they would be in modern britain because they were a normal part of peoples everyday lives,ie there were fascist football clubs/motorclubs/bookshops/holiday camps ect. momentum was drained from the movement when the uniforms were banned, they lost their power, organisational abilitites and influence.

Perhaps the blackshirt alone would have been alright, but when jackboots and peaked caps were added it soon all seemed to para-militaristic for British tastes. Although the blackshirt it self had the pedigree of being drawn from Mussolini's fascists, perhaps a different colour to distinguish British fascism might have been a good idea. All water long since under the bridge though.
